Anyone with grey hair dyed the white bits a bright colour eg blue, green or red?

I have been growing out my greys in lockdown. Now have lovely white streaks.

Have always wanted eg blue hair but as it is naturally almost black, it would have been difficult to do as it would have needed heavy bleaching first.

Now I have natural white highlights, am tempted to dye them eg blue or red?

Has anyone done this and if so, how did it go and would you recommend it? Any tips?

I don't have grey hair, so forgive me for butting in, but if I did, I would 100% do this.

What I do have is hair of which parts of it are bleached white blonde, so I may be able to offer some advice?

I would suggest buying some of the Shrine colour drops (available in Boots, or: www.weareshrine.com/pages/shrine-drop-it) and adding them into your conditioner, simply because it's an easy method and since it's a direct dye it washes out/fades eventually and it won't harm your hair.

I have a job where I can't have fun hair now, but I do still put a bit of blue and grey Arctic Fox dye onto my hair to tone out the yellow once a week or so.

Mid brown hair with white streak here. Have experimented with shrine drops recently. I found the colour didn't really stick to the white streak enough for my liking. It came out a very pale pastel but washed out within one or two washes.

I had better results with revolution toner for brunettes which seems to be the same principle (ie coloured conditioner for temporary colour) but a much, much stronger colour. About 5 washes in and the white is now very pastel and I'm considering redoing it.

The colour obviously does also show up on the rest of your hair. I think with your very dark brown hair the effect could be stunning - a blue haze when it catches the light, with an actual blue streak.

I found with both products the colour stuck much more to the areas of my hair that had prior damage from heat styling or box dye.

I have almost black hair as well and I did mine red a few years ago, it looked really good. It never fully washed out, it faded to a nice sort of ice pink though, which looked quite cool with the white regrowth. I did do it again a while later but the colour I used was too dark and it didn’t really have any contrast. Only just finished growing that mistake out!

I think the one I used the first time was Schwartzkopf Live Raspberry Rebel, you can vary how long you leave it on for depending on how bright you want it to be.

Yes me! Almost all white here.

I use Crazy Color Flame. (or Cyclamen is good too)
I leave it on for over an hour. I don't bleach it at all. I used to have very very dark hair - the back still has some dark streaks. I am really pleased with how they look with the pink. I've been doing this with no bleach for five years now. Here are some pictures - with the underneath which still has some black in it to show you the streaks.

Ah, thanks everyone.

Love the bright pink, @girlwithkaleidoscopehair - looks stunning.

Need to decide on colour - in my heart, I want blue, and think it would go well with my natural dark brown and make that look black, with electric blue highlights. But I do a grown up job in a quite straightlaced environment, so not sure if I can get away with this?

Red is probably easier to get away with as it looks more natural.

Decisions, decisions... Good to know there are short-term wash in wash out options!
