Urgent advice please - shoes to go with this dress?!

I am going to the races next week, it will be the first time I have actually worn anything other than comfy clothes and trainers this year, probably longer, and I am feeling stressed! I need to find some shoes to go with this dress:

www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0858565001.html

I am going to be in the restaurant so need to be smart, so no trainers, but also I need to be able to do a lot of walking all around the racecourse so need to actually be comfortable.

Ideally would like recommendation for some sandals, either flat or block heeled? I also have very mild swelling on my ankles which makes sandals that have an ankle strap look horrendous, coupled with having short legs (I am 5'4") ankle straps are just ot flattering, which eliminates so many sandals, I need to order something ASAP.

Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated! TIA Smile

I'd look on Pavers, they have a leather sling back wedge, which although not totally flat has about an inch wedge. I've been to the races twice and they were definitely a dressy occasion and a lot of flats would be too casual. My 2 most comfortable pairs of shoes are from there one is a highish pair of wedges but I can wear them all day without pain.

Have a look at the Lands End website. They have some comfy sandals and espadrilles in the sale in black or cream eg these for £25.

Are you certain you what sandals? Here it has been pouring for weeks and everywhere is muddy. Might you be anle to work this dress with kner high boots?

Love these!! I wonder if shoes from Stradivarius are comfortable though, the sole looks very thin :(

Thanks, I will check it out!

Luckily this isn't 'a day at the races' like royal ascot or anything (did you know the races are every day of the year except xmas day?), it's at a smaller race course, limited attendance obviously due to the pandemic, I will need to be smart though but not super dressed up.

[quote Elouera]Will you be walking on grass at any point, or only on hard surfaces? I've used something like these when I wore heels at a garden wedding:

Do you need a hat, or is it less formal? I'm unsure how formal your shoes need to be? Maybe a wedge? What colour is your handbag? you could go red accessories to lift it a bit or are you wanting white/cream shoes?

Thanks so much!

I have never been to this race course before, I may need to go on grass though, weather dependent, if it's still raining then I will try stay inside!

Well... it is also absolutely torrential where I am right now but the forecast is dry the rest of the week with some showers, on the day cloudy and 18 degrees. I guess the ground could easily be muddy still though.

Ankle boots look terrible on my legs due to them being short and not slim, or else that would be my go to!

@TeaCats I've actually got a few pairs of boots from Stradivarius and have been pleasantly surprised by the comfort and quality of them. The mules are sold out in most sizes on ASOS but they have got very good reviews and are rated to be very comfortable.

There are a lot of other brands that have very similar styles on Asos though. It's a very popular style at the moment.
