does your wardrobe reflect your actual lifestyle?

Been thinking about this. I used to just buy stuff that I liked, fairly randomly, hence nothing paired up well with anything else and tended not to suit the weather or occasion.

These days, I'm almost loathe to spend money at all.
And aim to purchase only what is necessary for my actual lifestyle.

This means I have lots of hiking/walking stuff because this is my fave thing. I also enjoy yoga, mediation, so a few bits of nice loungewear, etc.

I WFH (always have) so tend to wear decent pj's indoors, with cotton tees and so on.

But I am at a loss for everything else. What if I have to attend a wedding, or go out for dinner, or have to have a meeting with clients (rare, but still..)?

I think the 'rule' of only buying what you really need, for each occasion is perfect for me (not for everyone!), so can you think of any other occasions that we might need something for?

I am pretty much clean out of dresses and skirts and have nothing for a formal event. Because I don't do formal often, if at all, I am clueless to what I might need (2 dresses for each season?), a pair of nice flats?

If you are mostly causal, or WFH and don't do formal events much, would you bother having a few bits around for formal 'emergencies' or just buy-at-the-time?

So far, I own:
For outdoors - a puffer, waterproof jacket, hiking leggings, thermals, good boots and trainers.

For WFH - Pj's, yoga pants, linen tees and light sweaters.

For casual - one pair of jeans, smart leggings, few tops and jumpers from white company. One Oxford shirt. Also one pair of Birk sandals, some superga's and some DM Chelsea boots.

For summer/hols - one strappy dress, a light cardigan and some tees.

For special occasions and formal events I have pretty much nothing apart from a lovely Margaret Howell silk scarf, a good bag and a gorgeous long wool coatBlush (no shoes!)

This is like my entire shebang, and it works! But it is a bit lacking...

I have a lot of things that have been largely unworn for the last year while I've been working from home. I have lots of lovely wool trousers from Cos, for example, which fit beautifully and look great, but I would feel like a twit wearing them to sit at the kitchen table - plus they would be covered in cat hair!

Occasion-wear, nope, but we don't tend to go to formal events. I have nice dresses for going out for dinner or lunch, drinks, but not that I would wear to a wedding or a black-tie do.

In the last year I have spent more on nice knitwear and good jeans than anything else.

Not really. 60% of it does but the rest is a mish mash of formal and professional attire that never gets worn but was expensive or is too good to give away.

No. I have the wardrobe of someone in their twenties with a great figure and amazing social life. I have the lifestyle of deluded 52 year old who spends her saturday nights watching I can see your voice in her mom jeans and perspex mules.

Yes, my life is mainly dog walking, running round with the kids and casual meet ups with friends with the odd night out thrown in (but usually just wear a dress with boots and biker for that. Very rarely do I go somehow that requires formal wear and the last wedding I went to was my own Grin
I wear uniform at work so don't need office wear either. If I have an 'occasion' I tend to buy specifically for it.

As lolliwillowes said, I use to do this every year, summer is my favourite season, was lucky to have two holidays abroad a year so brought too many summer clothing, but the last 2 to 3 years been buying less and less, summer clothing doesn't date so much, as it really only get worn for two week a we are away plus the odd few hot days we get here in uk, covid has helped me cut down, even though the shops are opened i still haven't been shopping in stores, so far this year I spent under £180 on line which is good for me, some or most was winter clothing I really don't need any summer clothes. I've brought a few items second hand on ebay.
