Thinking about buying some mark 1V from ebay approx £85 compared to £120 from down the road. Are they worth the money?

Definately they are the best on the market. Be warned though constant use destroys your hair!!!!!!!

i got babylis pro 230. sil has ghd's she said mine are better than hers (cheaper too)
my hair is super thick and they even straighten mine

Whizzz · 17/11/2007 14:28

yes - they are magnificent !!

smurfgirl · 17/11/2007 14:29

Yes yes yes.

jenjins · 17/11/2007 14:30

i have the babyliss 230 too and they are great too. think its madness spending all that money on them just because they are thicker. babyliss ones are also thick and less than half the price!

used2bthin · 17/11/2007 14:31

I love my GHD's.Had to replace first pair after 2 yrs though(on the day the warantee ran out, I was not impressed) I use them at least once a day though and have never found any others to be anywhere near as good.

Winetimeisfinetime · 17/11/2007 14:39

I have the Babyliss Pro 230's too - they cost £39.99 and have a long guarantee and are brilliant ! I have thick, wavy hair and they work really, really well. My hair stays straight for days and sometimes is still straight even after I've washed it again. Can't recommend them highly enough. I was going to splash out on GHD's as previous straighteners haven't worked very well for me but after reading all the positive reviews of the Babyliss ones { and the not so good reviews about the durability of GHD's } bought the Babyliss ones and am really pleased I did. I wouldnt' be without them now.

Magdelanian · 17/11/2007 15:12

Thanks for replies. Will check out the Babyliss 230 too and weigh it up price wise.

Another vote for GHDs - had mine for years, use them a few times a week (with the recommended hair oil) and have no hair damage and have never had any reliability issues. Plus, rumour has it, non-GHD straigteners can have problems with uneven heat distribition - creating heat spots and cold spots.

But, you can always buy the babyliss ones and, if you're not happy, wait for GHD to do their 'Iron Exchange' offer which means if you exchange your other straigteners for GHDs, they will give you £25 towards them.

Pinkchampagne · 18/11/2007 11:38

Definitely worth every penny! I have some, and recently left them at my sister's house. I had to resort to using my old straighteners, and it took so much longer to try to straighten my hair, and the end result was not great.
My sister kept forgetting them (probably on purpose!) when she came my way, and I went a whole month without them. I was so desperate for them back, I was going to some more!

MummyPenguin · 18/11/2007 12:14

These Babyliss 230 ones - do they have wide plates? Will google anyway. I've got the normal sized GHD's and think they are the best £100 I've spent (apart from a mini cruise from Cyprus to Israel in 1995, but I'm digressing) my hair has grown quite long, and am thinking of getting the wide plate ones now.

redadmiral · 18/11/2007 12:29

Slightly off topic, but can anyone tell me how to use the protector spray properly on dry hair. It says to spray each strand before you straighten it, but that seems to use up loads of the spray, and leave me with sticky overloaded hair. If I use less, or try to spray it on over my entire hair first, there seem so be loads of bits that don't get any spray. Help!

Magdelanian · 18/11/2007 17:27

Sorry I've never used a protector spray so cannot advise. I'm going to order the babyliss and try them. If not excellent get some GHD's later. We could do with a pair each. That's me and DD btw.

I use one spray of GHD hair oil - from about 20 cms away - per 3 inch wide section. As in, use very sparingly. Then comb through. (I always comb through before running the irons through and during anyway, so this spreads the protective spray evenly)

redadmiral · 19/11/2007 13:52

Thanks Gemy

MummyPenguin · 20/11/2007 09:52

I use the Lee Stafford protection spray. Just as good as the GHD one and cheaper. I just give the under section of my hair a good blast all over with it, then the top section, leave it to dry a little bit and away I go. Lee Stafford does a good range called 'Poker Straight' for us iron lovers. The intensive conditioner is really good. I buy the products in Boots and sometimes they're on 3 for 2.

lizandlulu · 20/11/2007 11:59

those babyliss ones are half price in argos, so they are £29.99. i am going to invest in some tomorrow.

gemmiegoatlegs · 20/11/2007 12:00

debenhams also have the babyliss 230s on half price at £30

dinny · 20/11/2007 12:04

harleyd · 20/11/2007 12:05

yes they are worth every penny

louii · 20/11/2007 16:20
