Really dark under eyes - help!

I have suffered with really dark circles under my eyes for some time.

The skin in not wrinkled, puffy or saggy. Just so dark.

Looks like I've been punched in the face when it's really bad.

I'm 30 and I find myself caking make up around my eyes when I'd much rather have a bare face. I feel like I should still be able to. Is there anything I can do to reduce the darkness?

Please help, it's starting to really get me down.

Have the same problem. I drink lots of water cos I read the dark circles are linked to your kidneys. Not sure if that's true but I feel better! Getting plenty of sleep helps me too and cutting down on sugar. And I use a peach colour corrector on the dark patches under my normal concealer when applying makeup which really helps.

EatingAllThePies · 20/05/2021 20:21

Yes me too. I am drinking 3 pints of water a day and I use a dark circle cream but not sure either really helps. I use quite a light liquid concealer that i apply lightly over the dark rings but it doesn't hide them tbh I just feel that thick and cakey draws more attention! Touche eclait (spelling?) Keeps being recommended but it does literally nothing for me!

SwearytheFairy · 20/05/2021 20:59

I got told it's sinus congestion, which I do definitely have.

No advice but following for tips.

I don't wear make up but would consider it for this from time to time.

It can also be a sign of an allergy, called allergic shiners. My daughter had them really badly and they went when she went dairy free.

GVmama · 20/05/2021 21:08

You need an orange or a yellow concealer depending on your skin tone, for pale skin try yellow and orange for darker skin that tans well.

I have pale skin and use a lemon concealer and honestly it makes such a difference, my dark circles disappear.

This is the one I use; www.amazon.co.uk/COLLECTION-Lasting-Perfection-Correction-Concealer/dp/B071KHH5ST/ref=asc_df_B071KHH5ST/?hvlocphy=1006663&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=310817340924&hvpone&hvlocint&hvpos&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-623363281183&hvrand=4647430760830698758

@GVmama

That sounds good value! I've just ordered it to try it out. I've got horrendous dark circles.

DaisyChainsForever · 20/05/2021 22:22

@GVmama Do you use that under a normal concealer, or instead of?

BrilliantBetty · 20/05/2021 22:26

@GVmama thank you. I'll try that.

I had the idea it was linked to low iron. But I have changed my diet from vegetarian to eating meet 2 or 3 times each week and taking iron supplement. 12 months on and no noticeable difference.

I am well hydrated. It could be too much sugar, I hadn't heard of that being connected before but I do eat too much sugar

I use a peach Bobbi brown corrector. On any other part of the face it looks orange but it does the trick under the eyes.

Elouera · 20/05/2021 22:53

Have you actually had a blood test to check your iron levels and thyroid? Over the counter iron supplements are just for maintenance. They are too low to be of much benefit if you are already deficient. You can be anaemic even as a meat eater (I was ).

Get a blood test to check your levels, and if deficient, get a dose that will actually correct the problem.

Covetthee · 20/05/2021 23:37

Have you thought about tear trough fillers? My friend had it done and the results were great and still looking good a year on.

MoltonSilver · 20/05/2021 23:41

Artificial sweeteners, particularly diet drinks, do that to me. I had though it was a sinus issue but the difference was quite dramatic when I gave up the diet coke.

AnnieSnap · 20/05/2021 23:58

I have had them since my 30. I’m now 61. Over the decades nothing has helped (not drinking lots of water, I don’t use artificial sweeteners and eat a good diet). From what I have learned they are genetic. I swear by YSL Touche Eclat. It very lightweight and can be worn effectively with an otherwise bare face.

GVmama · 21/05/2021 08:12

@DaisyChainsForever I use it instead of an ordinary concealer, it just counteracts the purple colour under my eyes somehow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2021 08:16

I’ve had them since I was 4, I read it’s a cool toned skin tone showing the blood vessels in that area.

I’m permanently a bit stuffy nosed too, maybe I ought to try a nasal spray or face massage.

I also read tear trough fillers sort this out. I have the nyx concealer too in orange. I want to try a lemon one now though.

absentpresence · 21/05/2021 08:35

Tear trough filler is good if you have hollow under eyes, but can cause puffiness if you aren't hollow, just dark. For dark under eyes I would recommend skin booster injections, such as Jalupro or Sunekos 200. Another good option is PRP (platelet rich plasma) which can be injected using a cannula, or by microneedling (vampire facial) Smile
