Awkward stage post-baby where your maternity clothes are too big and your normal clothes too small - what did you wear?

Had my second son 8 weeks ago. He was big - nearly 10lbs - so I was massive while pregnant. Now at the awkward stage where all my maternity jeans & leggings are too big but there's no way I can get back in my normal jeans yet!
Am 5'5" and was a size 12 pre-pregnancy, reckon am a 14-16 atm. My tummy still looks fairly big & is very untoned.
Currently stuck with just a couple of pairs of yoga leggings. Is post partum shape wear worth it? Any styles of jeans that would be flattering? Would love any advice & suggestions thank you x

Following as in exactly the same boat!

Do you need BFing clothes too? That might affect your options/choices.

I found chinos quite useful for that tum-deflation stage (big baby, c section etc etc) bc I belted them, and adjusted the belt as my pregs tum disappeared. But I also did deeply untrendy longer/tunicy tops with a pair of denim look leggings... with an elastic waistband! (1. Because ultimately I am unstylish, and 2. Because of the painful scar. That's my excuse....)

It was a heatwave so I had a few handy maxi dresses as well. Tum covered, but accessible for feeding. (amazon)

Dresses

I bought 2 pairs of cheap jeans to make me feel a bit more normal. Plus some mega hold it in pants to smooth it over a bit. Then my maternity tops but with vests underneath for BF

What did you wear at the equivalent stage when you were pregnant?

Can you do the jeans trick of looping a hairband to close them and wearing a long top that covers the fly?

Serafinaaa · 19/05/2021 20:44

I bought a few new things as I felt bad trying to squeeze into too small clothes and wanted things that fitted. I then sold them after I'd lost the weight and didn't feel bad about losing money on the clothes because I was happy about getting back into the old ones!

MonChoufleur123 · 19/05/2021 22:49

Nowhere near getting back in my old jeans even with just leaving the button undone sadly! :(

If you want to lose weight I wouldn't bother with jeans. I feel my best in sweaty Betty and Spanx high waist leggings. Anything high waist is your friend! I also got some joggers from John Lewis.

Primark for me. I brought some cheapie things in my size.

MonChoufleur123 · 19/05/2021 22:54

Really self conscious of my tum so tunics and leggings sound great if I can find some longer breastfeeding tops.

@tigerbreadandtea those Spanx leggings look amazing but they're £££! Do you still wear them? Are they worth the investment?

@MonChoufleur123 yes I get mine on asos when they do offers and promo codes. They are amazing.

Grizalda · 20/05/2021 09:30

I bought two pairs of cheap primark jeans in the bigger size and washed and wore until I noticed they were becoming big on me.
It was £10 well spent in the end, but that was years ago now. I'd probably do the same now or wear floaty dresses.

k4523 · 20/05/2021 09:31

I'm in the same boat, have bought 2 seraphine dresses I'm wearing on repeat. I prefer a breastfeeding top rather than piling up a normal t shirt

Beachlovingirl · 20/05/2021 09:31

I had these amazing post pregnancy leggings from seraphine. They are shaping but only in a comfy way and no seams or roll down. I wore these a lot and I also cut the legs off later on so they’re now a great pair of shaping pants!

OP the reason I'm refusing to buy bigger jeans is because I think I'll just end up accepting my weight and not losinn what I want. Everyone is different but for me a big motivation is getting comfortably back into my old jeans.

mistermagpie · 20/05/2021 10:32

I went to primark and bought a load of cheap jeggings and long sleeved t-shirts in my interim size. No point spending loads of money if you are planning to get back to your original size. It's a horrible no-mans-land of dressing though, I felt rubbish.

Luckily with my third baby it was lockdown so I didn't see anyone anyway!
