i've had my hairdryer for years. it still works and i thought a hairdryer was a hairdryer.

anyway, after a trip to the hairdressers today i wondered if the reason my hair always looks like shit when i blow dry it myself is because of the dryer i'm using.

just had a look around and i have come across these erm..ionic hairdryers..

are they the best thing ? do they really do the job better?

should i splash out on one??

advice please

I bought one a couple of years ago and it did the opposite of what it said on the box- made my hair really frizzy and horrible. I took it back and tried a different brand - same thing happened so I went back to a standard hairdryer.

It probably depends on your hair type, you can always try it and return it it it doesn't suit.

pootleflump · 16/11/2007 20:31

if it doesn't suit

I don't think it matters what type of hairdryer you use as long as
a) you buy a decent shampoo and conditioner and make sure you rinse it off well
b) Section your hair off to dry it, it's quicker and looks better
c) Finish it off with a good paddle brush.

granarybeck · 16/11/2007 20:41

What does the paddle brush do? Have been wondering this. Is it more for longer hair?

Gemy · 16/11/2007 20:42

I have one by vidal sassoon and LOVE it. It gives a great salon blowdry and a very smooth finish. But, I don;t know if this has anything to do with it being ionic or just a good hairdryer (or maybe I am just good at blowdrying?!)

This is the one I have:
www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1061966&classificationid=1037841 and the comb attachment is really good for creating volume at the roots if you are in a Bridget Bardot kind of mood )

Personally, I think even with a fab hairdryer the technique is still as important as the dryer to get a salpn result. But, I have used those small squatty dryers in the past (or even worse those you get in hotels) and they are always going to give a less-than-proffessional finish no matter what.

A good paddle brush will make the hair lie down and banish frizz but it does need to be a good one. Obviously wouldn't work on curly hair, (you would need good product for that) but it would work on short and sleek hair.

cheeryface · 16/11/2007 20:44

yeah, didn't think of that.

so, thats one vote against ionic then!

i have also just spotted this nutrheat dryer thats has capsules atached that infuse hair with silk proteins!

seems theres more out there than i ever knew!!

Mmm wow £85 is rather alot....yes, you'd want to be sure before investing that much!

Have seen the TV advert for that nutriheat one and it does look good (ooh if you do get that one, let me know what it's like!)

cheeryface · 16/11/2007 20:53

the nutriheat one is £40 so thats not too bad

rantinghw, ta, think i'll try a paddlebrush

cheeryface · 17/11/2007 13:52

have invested in a paddle brush. Still not sure about the dryer though. don't think i can afford 85 quid thois near to xmas.

the nutriheat looks good but that isn't ionic is it so thats a whole other debate!

anyone else anything to add??

OP posts:
cheeryface · 17/11/2007 14:19

and heres something else,

those palm dryer thingies. have you seen them they are smaller hairdryers with no handle!

Good luck cheeryface with the paddle brush. Not a fan myself (just give my hair static!) but hope it works for you.

If it makes any difference, the hairdryer I had before my ionic one was not ionic (but still Vidal Sassoon) and I was still very happy with it.

I think after my present one has broken, I may give the nutriheat one a go (but I have been loyal to VS for so long, not sure I'll have the guts!)

Oh and buy a good pre-dry protective spray. I use Heat Seal by Paul Mitchell and it's very good.

Happy hair drying!!

xx

thanx gemy
