What do you do with your hair when you go to bed?!

Sick of waking up with bed hair! I’m really really trying not to heat style my hair (trying to let it repair after being heat damaged and get it to grow!) everyday so blow dry it straight when I wash it but I’m struggling with it being wonky, frizzy or bumpy when I wake up! I’ve been doing plaits or the heartless curls thing with a dressing gown cord but that only seems to work once then day 2 and 3 it just looks shite the next day! I only wash it every 3 days. Just wondered what other people do, I feel like I’m missing something! I really don’t want to straighten even just the front as those bits are the worst damaged.

Plates, single side plate, soft bun, ponytail. Anything to keep it out of my face. I don’t find what I do makes much difference to how it looks in the morning and I only ever straighten my fringe, not the rest of it.

That’s probably very unhelpful!

Prettybubblesintheair · 17/05/2021 16:47

No it’s ok thanks for replying, maybe I’m not missing some special secret trick then! I don’t have a fringe, I have ear length “bangs” that haven’t grown in months that need reshaping in the morning but my hairdresser said that the reason they’re not growing is because I keep straightening them! Ugh maybe I’m destined to look like a scarecrow!

Silk turban?

Or a silk pillowcase?

QueenOfPain · 17/05/2021 16:50

Tie it up in a scruchie to keep it out of my face, but that inevitable falls out in the night. The other thing is that I twist it into a loose bun on top of my head, then secure it with one of those small three pronged crocodile clips, that stays in a lot better and means there’s no tension around my hair line or anything.

I always wake up looking like I've been electrocuted while crawling deep through hedges (only think missing is the birds). It's naturally very curly and there's one chance only to get a comb through it and that's when it's wet with conditioner on. So I just wash it every morning.

AlwaysLatte · 17/05/2021 16:52

No I don't use any heat on it though.

single side plate
😂 🍽

I recently bought one of those silk bonnet things and it makes my hair much more sleek and less dragged through a hedge when I get up in the morning. I don’t use it though as it makes my hair really flat to my head and takes all the volume out of it Hmm

I wash mine every morning for this reason, my bed head cannot be fixed, even if I dampen it.

I have several friends who talk of washing their hair once or twice a week, I have no idea how. I even have running friends who don't wash it after a run. How? Mine is wet through!

tabulahrasa · 17/05/2021 16:56

It’s curly, so I clip it up and wear a buff... s’very attractive so it is, lol, but that way I can get about 5 days between washing/wetting it instead of 1.

My hair is naturally curly, so I wet it every morning and put some product through it to scrunch it up. If I straighten it, I need to touch it up in the morning. I generally need to tie it up by day three.

Can you not spray some water on your hair and redo the roller thing each evening?

CommanderBurnham · 17/05/2021 17:26

I put it on loose plait. So I have no knots to grapple with in the mornings just let it loose and go.

picturesandpickles · 17/05/2021 17:27

I have embraced dishevelled hair

See in theory this is a great idea, I thought by dampening it then doing the roller thing I’d crack it but my hair needs to be blowdried straight or it dries with frizz so I have frizzy curls! I might try dampening it then putting some frizz ease in.

I have a silk pillowcase which has definitely helped. It’s really the ear length bits that just look a bit shit! I’ll try to embrace it or pin them back. I’m hoping now I’ve stopped straightening it every day they’ll grow and I’ll be able to plait them in with the rest of my hair.

Side plates definitely don’t help, they just crack in the night!
