Hyperpigmentation help please

Strongswans · 16/05/2021 18:05

Hope this is the right place. I have had some patches of hyperpigmentation for a couple of years now. If it matters I'm mid- 30's. I have some on my face which are really bothering me now, mostly the one above my top lip, so looks a bit like a moustache.

Can anyone recommend any creams/serums etc... that can reduce hyperpigmentation, preferably not to expensive? Thanks in advance.

Hello I have this so am interested in any suggestions people give you. I have started this year wearing factor 50 sun cream on my face. I have bought many serums and hyaluronic acids over the years but not found anything that works.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/05/2021 19:57

Dermatica and skin+me are online dermatologists who’ll prescribe prescription strength cream for it. First month is usually free.

I’ve been using BodyShop drops of light with really good results. I have two large darker areas on my forehead, they are noticeably better with consistent use. I’ve also just started using a Factor 50 sunblock on my face as I really don’t want all the hard work being undone!

Dermatica is an online dermatologist that does prescription creams for things like pigmentation and acne

I have this really badly on my forehead and cheeks. I have just started using this from Caudalie. It feels lovely but not given it long enough to help. I've tried loads of things and am a regular retinoid and Vit C user (have been for years). I've also always worn SPF50.

This, my prescription has hydroquinone and it's really helped my pigmentation.

Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Corrector works v well

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 16/05/2021 20:15

I've got melasma hyperpigmentation on my forehead and not been able to get rid. I've most recently been trying azelaic acid by the ordinary, I've used the whole thing now and it's not done anything. I use spf50 to stop t it getting worse. I might look into the dermatica mentioned above then.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 16/05/2021 20:32

Right I'm trying it! So here's a code if anyone else chooses to.

Strongswans · 16/05/2021 20:35

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'll have a look in a bit. I have been using factor 50 as well and it doesn't seem to be getting worse at least. It's starting to upset me a bit so I need to do something now.

I know how you feel, mine is partly due to waxing my top lip for years and then during my last pregnancy it went so dark it looked like an actual moustache I cried about it for so long.

Not I use a mineral factor 50 sunscreen and haven’t long started the ordinary products after not having luck with eucerin.

I think inevitably I’ll have to go down the chemical peel route once DC2 is here if not before. Loving the fact masks are a thing at the minute because I can hide a bit more.

Donitta · 16/05/2021 20:42

If you really want rid of it, laser treatment is the way to go. It breaks up the pigment in the skin similar to tattoo removal. Worth saving up for.

louisethedisease · 16/05/2021 23:16

I use skin and me fir my pigmentation, it's brill at reducing it. I have a code if you would like 2 months for free and see what you think. Code is SAMANTHT9AHW

Athinginitself · 17/05/2021 07:34

I've just started with dermatica for hyperpigmentation/melasma. My patches are under my eyes so it just makes me look awful and like really dark bags which dont need any help! It's only £2.90 for the first month but I'm guessing I'll need to give it a few months to make a difference. It came within 48 hrs which was good. You upload photos when you sign up. They've prescribed a low strength retinoid and hydroquinone, have a bit of peeling at the moment but it's not too bad. You just need to be really careful with using an SPF 50.
I cant really reccomend it as only just started but if anyone wants to they can use my referral code: www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/BAVK

Bluebell9 · 17/05/2021 11:51

I've got hyper-pigmentation on my forehead and top lip.

I've started using Paulas Choice Azelaic Acid and its reducing the intensity of the colour in 3 weeks!

I also use Neostrata SPF 50.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 17/05/2021 18:23

@Bluebell9 what strength is that azelaic acid out of interest? The ordinary one has done nowt for me, its 10%.

I've just had an email from dermatica with what they're planning :
Month 1: Tretinoin 0.025% / Hydroquinone 4% cream

Month 2: Tretinoin 0.05% / Hydroquinone 4% cream

Month 3: Tretinoin 0.05% / Hydroquinone 4% cream

Months 4+: Tretinoin 0.05% / Niacinamide 4% / Azelaic Acid 4%

Bluebell9 · 20/05/2021 05:23

The Paulas Choice one is 10% but is more effective than a different 10% I've I've tried before.
It also contains salicylic acid and liquorice extract.
I've looked into getting skin and me before but as I'm still breastfeeding I can't use retinol.

I hope you find something that works for you.

canyon2000 · 20/05/2021 07:20

I had it on my top lip from having waxing. I have stopped waxing my top lip and it faded away over a few months and hasn't returned.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 20/05/2021 07:44

The Eucerin anti pigment day cream and night cream cleared mine up, took a while but it did work!

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 20/05/2021 07:45

I got mine faded/in check by using factor 50 every day, snd vitamin C cream at night

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 20/05/2021 07:45

Took about a year though

sheeplikessleep · 20/05/2021 09:41

I’m having some laser treatment to clear my pigment. I’ve had one and another one booked for next week (6 weeks after first). It isn’t cheap but it has really faded it and I’m hoping second treatment will be enough. I’m now religiously applying spf50 as well to try to stop it coming back.
