Balyage - cost?

I know it will vary by area, hair, length etc but how much should I be paying for balyage? I have found a good hairdresser and I know it takes a lot of time so happy to pay for that, but she says it will be around £200. is this normal? I would need a root tint as well as balyage as I have greys.

I'm paying £250 for the balayage I've booked. I've got grey too but the main time consuming part is bleaching my naturally dark hair. I'm in the SE.

idontlikealdi · 15/05/2021 10:58

Around £250 here

SummaLuvin · 15/05/2021 12:45

£150 (this doesn't include the finish which varies if you choose just a blow-dry or cut as well)

MonkeysandParrots · 15/05/2021 13:12

Just paid £210 for balayage, baby lights around the face and a cut. Bristol.

Panaesthesia · 15/05/2021 13:33

I'm in the North, it's £120ish in the city centre salons, £100 in the suburbs.

Reinventinganna · 15/05/2021 13:36

Blimey! For my roots, balayage, trim and finish I pay £90. It’s beautifully done and I’m always happy with the result. I would pay more !

fiorentina · 15/05/2021 15:05

I paid £125 including root tint but I blow dried it myself.

KimchiLaLa · 15/05/2021 22:46

I am quite near London but seems the cost isn't too far off some of yours so thank you!

Totally normal for a good salon

SylHellais · 15/05/2021 23:08

I just paid £200 for mine. South east near London.

Aposterhasnoname · 15/05/2021 23:30

WTAF! My Balayage is £60 and I thought that was expensive.

seepingweeping · 15/05/2021 23:33

£70 inc cut

EverythingWasGolden · 16/05/2021 13:00

£120 including cut in Scottish suburbs. £2-300 in a few of the Edinburgh salons...

I should add that I have very long hair and also needed a root tint. The 200 included a cut and blow dry too.

dudsville · 16/05/2021 17:50

How are you all pronouncing this, and where did the term come from? I've long wondered...I'm off to Google.

dudsville · 16/05/2021 17:53

(It's french, you all probably knew that).

zippyswife · 16/05/2021 18:17

Slightly off topic but I had a balayage the other day with foils. I thought it was supposed to be painted on rather than foils? This is the second time this has happened- was a different hairdresser previously. Why would they use foils instead?

Balla - yarj. It's been around for years. It means the highlighting is hand-painted on rather than chunky foil strips, so it looks more natural.

Oh that's a problem. They've used the 'fashionable' term without giving you the actual treatment :(
zippyswife · 16/05/2021 19:22

@Panaesthesia that's what I thought tooConfused

don't foils help the hair process quicker? Being generous is it possible they did the correct balayage hand painting technique, and used foils to speed it up? I'm no expert but are they mutually exclusive? That's me being an optimist, it does sound like they may not have done actual balayage.
zippyswife · 16/05/2021 19:39

She scrunched in bleach after she'd done the foil to make it lighter at the ends too Hmm I'm thinking that's not standard balayage Confused

I’ve heard a few people say this lately. Something to watch out for.
AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 16/05/2021 19:42
