How to deal with a spot

Hi guys,

Ok so I'm an idiot. I thought I had a blocked pore on my face, sort of like a blackhead (I have a few places where this happens sometimes and I usually just sort of squeeze to get the crap out...sorry). So I squeezed this one and it turns out it's under the skin. I gave it a bit of a scratch to see if I could get it out but no joy.

But now I have a big red angry spot there. Not huge but noticeable and a bit sore. It's been like that a couple of days.

Does anyone have any advice? Will it just calm down? Should I put something on it? If so, what? I use a spot gel when I get actual pimples but it's not really that.

TIA and sorry for the mild grossness.

Argh, I hate when that happens. Hydrocolloid patches bring down and swelling and redness. Still haven’t found anything that cures the temptation to poke.

Sudocrem!

Zengarden001 · 13/05/2021 11:34

Take some aspirin. It reduces the inflammation & pain. It won't cure spot but it will help.

LambChopsMcGee · 13/05/2021 11:42

Thanks all.

Do we think it will just go away with time? I'm wondering if I need to change my skincare regime to reduce these things. I used to use toner daily but that seems to have fallen out of fashion.

I’m sure it’ll go away!

If you’re looking for new (and very gentle) skin care try la roche posay. It’s made such a big difference to my skin.

LambChopsMcGee · 13/05/2021 12:04

Ohh I will. I have their sun lotions which I love. I will investigate.

Hold a hot flannel on it for as long as you can handle and repeat regularly - it will bring it to a head. If you don't want to do that then buy a fantastic cream called "acnecide" which calms nasty under the skin spots. I also swear by metanium for spots too.

If your an adult still breaking out it’s not unreasonable to see the dr.

But dab of magnesium sulphate with a sticking plaster over the top over night. If there's anything that will come out it'll bring it to the surface. Then warm flannel and apply light pressure, often if you are too forceful it gets pushed back down in the skin and could cause worse issues. If you're having to be forceful keep repeating the magnesium sulphate until it comes to a proper head. Bit of germoline or salvon when you have disposed of it to make sure all the nasties are dealt with.

Eep.

Sounds scary!

Not breaking out regularly, @Fluffycloudland77, it's the odd single spot if I eat too much sugar, basically.

This is probably not recommended, but a dab of my husbands steroid cream for psoriasis sorts out the odd deep spot I get (usually hormonal or alcohol related), other wise they hang about forever

Jongleurterre · 13/05/2021 14:43

Dots for spots work brilliantly.

Appletreehat · 13/05/2021 14:47

I occasionally get hormonal acne on my chin - I only get one ot two spots but they are the horrible big red angry ones under the skin and can take ages to go down if I just leave them.

I put a warm compress on for about 10 mins then I apply Hydrocortisone cream (it's anti-inflammatory) just a tiny amount. I don't know if you are supposed to do that on spots but it's the only thing for me that helps reduce the spot size quite significantly and stops it from feeling sore.

rosesarered321 · 13/05/2021 14:47

The ordinary 10% lactic acid sorted out my spots and lumps under the skin. It's a real miracle worker for me.

Roussette · 13/05/2021 15:02

I cannot recommend this enough. If I have a spot, I dab it on when I go to bed and literally next morning it's gone!

I was going to say this! Hot flannel a couple of times then put acnecide on it. I had a huge under the skin one I put the acnecide on it and by the next day it came to a head I then was able to put a hydrocolloid patch on it (I use dots for spots) and the next day it was drained and flattened. I do also use tret so not sure if it's a combination of both but I usually find the acnecide really does help bring them to a head and calm them down
