Please help me find a coat for dd2

Okay - after the infamous midnight blue silk shirt thread, I suspect that a couple of you will be groaning at another style thread from me but my dd is much more easily satisfied than I am - promise.

She's 10; quite tall and skinny and needs a warm coat for the winter please. The only stipulations are that it does not have nasty furry stuff around the hood (or anywhere else) and that it costs less than £40. So far I have tried M & S (nothing in stock except furry things in the one in Birmingham); Debenhams (ditto); Next (double ditto) and Monsoon (gorgeous but £65).

Many thanks in advance - please don't groan and ignore me!!!!

Could you stretch to a Boden duffle? They are really good quality. £52 for your daughter's size but MNers get discounts. I've also found that they last at least two winters as they are roomy.

They also have a nice parka for £44. My daughter has a cord version of this and it's great. She is tall and skinny too.

Ski jacket? Or does it have to be a coat coat, iyswim?

dairylea4brains · 16/11/2007 15:15

TK Maxx, Oli (online), Matalan, Miss Selfridge (if she is tall) and Tammy girl.

dairylea4brains · 16/11/2007 15:16

oh...and H&M!

janeite · 16/11/2007 18:07

Thanks - keem 'em coming. I'd like to buy "in the flesh" rather than online if at all possible. Pumpkin Patch had nice ones but none of them were big enough. The Boden ones are lovely but again, would prefer to just walk into a shop and get something.

A coat rather than a ski jacket would be better Jackieno, so it warms up those skinny little legs a bit too!

TX Maxx had a gorgeous one but it was too small. Tammy Girl didn't have anything that didn't make me shudder a bit I'm afraid! Zara only had teeny tiny ones.

Do Miss Selfridge have a teenage section then?

Must admit Boden looks the best bet so far but surely I should be able to get something on the high street?

BHS?

nappyaddict · 17/11/2007 13:50

What about supermarkets - tesco, asda, sainsbury's all do clothes.

There's always primark too.

Troutpout · 17/11/2007 13:56

i got a really nice dusky dark pink duffle for dd from john lewis (32 quid). Can be washed in machine too (boden one is dry clean only i think )
There were a few in JL that i liked

janeite · 17/11/2007 19:43

Thanks all - found one in Zara; it had fake fur but it detaches (genius!). It's just an anorak-thing though and was very cheap, so I think I'll have a look in John Lewis as well, for a smarter one and use the Zara one for "mucking about"!
