Itchy reaction to new shampoo and wedding in 36 hours! What would you do?

I’ve tried a new shampoo and conditioner this week and now I’m super itchy!

I’ve switched from Aussie mega which seems to be making my hair really dry, to trying Maui Moisture shampoo and the garnier ultimate blends banana hair food.

Tried the shampoo for the first time on Monday and felt a little itchy. Then today I’ve used it again and also used the hair food mask, and I’m itchy all over my scalp and arms and behind my ears. I’ve got to go to a wedding on Friday, in 36 hours time and NEED to wash my hair.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to try? Do I try to find another shampoo? Do I go and get another bottle of Aussie mega and just forever more have dry hair?

Help!

Take a dose of portion and stick to your old shampoo for another week or two! Happy wedding wishes!

I would take an antihistamine and wash with a shampoo specifically for itchy scalp, like the Head & Shoulders one or Body Shop ginger (I had this effect from Aussie and I was lucky that the itch went as soon as I popped a piriton and used the ginger shampoo).

Take an antihistamine.

I used a new shampoo after having a tattoo recently and the tattoo rashed up. Piritin or similar should sort it.

I mean, this isn’t normal and it doesn’t sound like you’re taking it seriously. If you call your GP, they may prescribe a weak scalp lotion or steroid cream that will bring the redness and inflammation down immediately.

Anti-histamines will reduce the itching sensation. However this isn’t a cure - you can’t just then go on to do whatever you like. Take this seriously. As your skin is now sensitised, for the next few days you need to go back to basics with ingredients in both body and hair products and styling. So no fragranced shampoo/conditioner/serums/dry shampoo/hair spray etc. No tight hair styles. Your hair for the wedding will have to be basic, otherwise you run the risk of prolonging the issue with your skin.

Like, your skin health should be more important than the wedding?

Go to Boots and buy something hypoallergenic for your next wash. Think Simple or E45 etc

Nizoral shampoo will sort you right out ... often available from Amazon or a supermarket. Really calms my very sensitive scalp in one go if I’ve used something that my skin objects too. It’s medicated and no so’s to irritate.

Sorry, I thought I replied last night but it obviously didn’t post.

I took the anti-histamine and felt much better, and rinsed my hair out with Luke warm water before bed. Didn’t wash my hair today and by chance found a small travel size Aussie in a suitcase I was packing. So I’ll use that in the morning.

@wingsnthat you’re being a bit dramatic. I was itchy, not dying!
