Think I bought a fake Self-Portrait dress, anyone got a real one so that I can compare labels etc please?

Bought a Self-Portrait dress off of eBay (I know, I know) and I'm not convinced it's real, it feels very light and just not the quality I was expecting. However, there's no stockists near me, so I've never seen or tried on a real one. If anyone has a dress and could check if the labels look the same I'd really appreciate it Smile

I don’t have my SP dress with me but from memory I think those labels look ok. Sorry you’re disappointed with your dress OP 😬

AuntVictoria · 11/05/2021 14:24

Thank you! I think I might be biased against it because it looks terrible on, but that is due to my baby weight rather than the dress Blush

I don't have one of my own, but the finishing on that dress looks too nice to be fake IMO. Have you looked at other ebay auctions that show the tags of the dress?

Here's one and it looks the same as yours. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154446162859

The only other thing I noticed is that on the back of some of the large white tags some auctions showed a sticker that had the item number, description etc.

On fakes the style code Is usually wrong in the inside label.
Did you buy the puff shoulder broderie dress? If so it should be genuine. As everything -tags and labels look good.
If no what dress did you buy?

AuntVictoria · 11/05/2021 16:11

It is the puff shoulder broderie dress, thank you both for your detective work! So I guess it is genuine.
So it turns out there are buttons after the zip which hold the top together, so it looks better than I thought. Am I kidding myself though - is it hideously unflattering? Honest opinions welcome!

Op, you're wearing trainer socks! Would you wear with heels?

Faffandahalf · 11/05/2021 16:14

You’ve got a great figure.
You can do better than that dress

AuntVictoria · 11/05/2021 16:20

Didn't think to take the socks off Grin however I wouldn't wear heels, although I'm only 5"2 I can't walk in them and am strictly a flats girl. Maybe ballet flats?

Thank you Faff, although you're too kind, I have some weight to lose! You're right though, I don't think it's the most flattering dress if I'm honest. How it was going to look in my head is not quite the result!

If I'm being completely honest it's probably not my favourite. You've got a larger bust, so I don't think the ruffles are doing you any favours.

But you're also wearing black socks which is throwing me way off lol. Put on a nice high white heel and stand up straight and it will look miles better!

I think this definitely needs heels. I'm 5'4 and would not wear flats with this. It will drag the whole look down and make it look frumpy.
Crowsandshivers · 11/05/2021 16:24

You have a beautiful figure, but the dress doesn't suit you. I would sell it on whilst you still have the labels attached.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 11/05/2021 16:25

I'm not keen on the style OP. My figure is similar to yours & I find that style makes me feel a bit frumpy.

Miseryisabutterfly · 11/05/2021 16:31

Lol, it would be much better without the socks! I’m not sure it fits quite right though, I think you could find something more flattering.

Miseryisabutterfly · 11/05/2021 16:32

It’s very froufrou and I’m not sure it would look great on anyone other than a wait tbh

Miseryisabutterfly · 11/05/2021 16:32

*waif!

Knittedfairies · 11/05/2021 16:35

I don't think it's the most flattering dress for you tbh.

AuntVictoria · 11/05/2021 16:39

Thanks all, I think I need to sell it on! Out of interest @HouseOfGoldandBones what style do you tend to go for? I'm in a bit of a frumpy style rut after being pregnant or breastfeeding for 3 years now. I'm reverting to my previous fit and flare knee length dresses but I'm not sure it's the best look for me any more.

That is a truly horrible dress ... you could do so much better ! What sort of dress are you looking for ? Are you hourglass ? I think you need colour too with your complexion!

colouringindoors · 11/05/2021 19:45

Honestly, I don't think that dress is doing you any favours. You look like you have a fab curvy body, maybe something 50s style would work better?

MakeTeaNotWar · 11/05/2021 21:31

I've picked up a few SP dresses from TK Maxx over the years and never thought the quality was great. That dress isn't great sorry. It's not you, it's the dress!
