Does anyone else HATE their feet and dread showing them off in strappy shoes?

Just following on from errr's thread where she is trying to deflect attention away from her feet. I do the same. Can't bear 'em. Bony, white, flat, veiny. God they're awful. I need a LOT of St. Tropez before I'll get mine out. Makes shoe choosing a nightmare, as I loathe my toes especially.

Is it only me??

I was like this for most of my twenties - convinced my feet were hideous monstrosities that should never be inflicted on the wider world. Then I discovered the regular pedi. I swear - it changes your 'foot self image' .

A pedi once a month in winter (and touch them up with foot scrubs, lotion etc in between) and once a fortnight in summer - helps loads. Has to be regular because eventually your feet start to look so much better. And I don'tmean a poncy 1 hr £40 pedicure where they spend half the time massaging you,I mean one of those ones you get in the Korean/Vietnamese etc places where the women saw off half of your dry, crusty foot . (Also, in summer, LIVE in flip flops, even if you hate the sight of your feet. The more air and sun that gets to them, the better they start to look)

St Tropez is great - I also reccomend that Sally Hansen 'spray on tights' stuff- it evens out the skin tone and helps reduce the appearance of knobbly, red, ugly bits (make sure your feet are well moisturised beforehand though, and don'tput it on too thick or it looks a bit orange). If there are bits of your feet you REALLY hate (my heels are battered) use a tinted moisturiser or a bit of foundation mixed with lotion to help disguise them. Obviosuly this is onlyfor wspecial occasions (I'm NOT a foot obsessive, honest!)

xx

yes I hate them - so much so that the only place I wear flipflops/open shoes is in the garden at home

MascaraOHara · 15/11/2007 16:13

I loathe my toes also and thus hate my feet.. although I reocgnise the rest of my foot isn't so bad I never ever buy beutifully strappy sandals as my toes just ruin them.

Maidamess · 15/11/2007 16:14

Actually Love, I have had a pedi before, once I had got over the cringiness of getting my feet out (which is a pretty fundamental part of having a pedi).

I even wore socks to deliver my kids, as I couldn't bear the thought of my feet waving around with a midwifes head in the vicinity!

My dh says he has NEVER even noticed a womans feet before, whereas I obsess about other peoples feet, and covet little dainty trotters, pref, brown.

Yeah, I hate it.

Maidamess · 15/11/2007 16:16

My dh HAS got dainty little brown trotters. GRRRRR. He calls me Claude Hopper.

Here in solidarity, maid.

gameboy · 15/11/2007 17:38

yes - I have hideous bunions, so no amount of pedis is going to help me

BrassicMonkey · 15/11/2007 17:40

I've got big long feet...they are ugly

Can't say I was bothered about covering them up in labour though. My fanjo's nothing to write home about either

weebleswobble · 15/11/2007 17:41

My feet are so broad they're kind of oblong shaped. Anything strappy looks so bad I can't bring myself to inflict them on myself, nevermind anyone else. Sling backs are the nearest to strappy my feet see.

weebleswobble · 15/11/2007 17:42

lol @ Brassic. I'm ok - my fanjo's stunning.

BrassicMonkey · 15/11/2007 17:48

There was a thread in the summer about how to get great feet. I think it might have been started by sobernow. I need that thread NOW! Christmas is looming and sandles are winking at me.

I agree though, that for us with really, really ugly feet trainers and boots really do go with every outfit

BarefootShirl · 16/11/2007 11:33

I know my feet don't look great - too many years of running around everywhere with no shoes on has taken its toll! But I will still be wearing the strappy shoes when I dress up to go out at Xmas - firstly, I hate closed in shoes with a vengeance, and secondly I am not so vain as to believe that my feet are my only feature that is less than perfect! Just have to make sure that the LBD shows enough to distract people's gaze to other areas - stylishly, of course
