Invisalign

I'm booked in for an Invisalign consultation next month. It's something I've been wanting to do for ages but keep putting off because I just don't know if I can justify the possible cost. I'll feel guilty spending that money on myself.

For anyone who's gone through the Invisalign process would you recommend it? Was it worth the money?

I've booked a consultation too. If it's £2000+ I don't think I'll go for it. I've heard £1500-£5000?

I only want my bottom row though, so maybe will be that sort of ballpark?

AddictedtoCrunchies · 10/05/2021 21:08

I had it done 4 years ago and it was worth every penny - about 3k. I spent my whole adult life hating my teeth. I had a gap at the front plus my bottom teeth were bent in from 47 years of thumb sucking. I NEVER smiled showing my teeth. Took 12 weeks and they are fab. The longer you wait, the less time you get to be smiley with lovely teeth!

LuckyMcDucky · 10/05/2021 21:11

That's great Crunchies!

I think for me the question is, would I be better off just having normal braces on my bottom row, if it's a lot cheaper? I don't show my bottom row of teeth really, so if the difference in cost is thousands, I'd probably take the cheaper option tbh

Grapefruity · 10/05/2021 21:14

I would be very surprised if you get a quote for less than £3k.
I haven't started yet (waiting for the trays to arrive) but I joined a Facebook page to know what to expect and it's a very informative

AddictedtoCrunchies · 10/05/2021 21:15

I'm trying to post a pic but it won't let me. I didnt consider train tracks - I wanted quick results. I paid by credit card then paid it off as quick as I could.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 10/05/2021 21:19

Will this work?

inmyslippers · 10/05/2021 21:20

I've been quoted 2.5k for Invisalign lite. Been told to expect 6months of braces. Gone with synergy dental

inmyslippers · 10/05/2021 21:21

Amazing crunchies!

inmyslippers · 10/05/2021 21:21

Did they hurt?

RuggeryBuggery · 10/05/2021 21:24

How did you stop sucking your thumb? asking for a friend

LuckyMcDucky · 10/05/2021 21:24

Wow, your teeth look great Crunchies! My bottom row is quite like yours were to begin with.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 10/05/2021 21:55

@inmyslippers

Did they hurt?
The first few days were sore and I had to use Bonjela. Just the gum line above my top teeth. Then they were a bit achy the first day of a new tray. Soon got used to it though and the soreness didn't last.

I had a couple of sessions with a hypnotherapist. Her talks plus a dose of "you're paying 3 grand and you're nearly 47 - get a fucking grip". The braces went on on the Friday and I just stopped when I left the surgery.

It was too difficult to suck it anyway because my mouth was changing shape so the place my thumb sat slowly disappeared.

I also used to have a thin lip on the left at the bottom where my thumb sat and thats plumped back up now. Also the roof of my mouth used to be lopsided where my thumb pushed on it but thats back to normal too.

I wear a retainer two nights a week which is no bother.

Another bonus was that I lost 20lbs. You have to brush your teeth and clean the braces every time you eat and drink anything other than water. So id eat breakfast and do all that then it was too much faff to snack so I'd wait till lunch, eat my pack up then do my teeth, then wait for tea and repeat.

Worth every penny. I paid around £3000 and have zero regrets.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 10/05/2021 22:07

See, they're so good i had to post it twice..

fairgame84 · 10/05/2021 22:15

Before and after. He widened my smile and straightened my teeth then shaped them at the end.

I've got invisalign. I paid £4.5k, I got 46 trays. And I've had them for 2 years this summer. I'm on tray 37 I think. I've found it slow. And my teeth weren't even that squint just my top front two stuck out a bit. Can't believe some people get it done in like 12 weeks!
Tbh I'm not convinced with it yet. I've seen my teeth moving as I've seen the gaps but as it's the front teeth I hate I think they'll be last to move. Just hoping they suddenly become perfect at the end and it's all worth it.
Mine are also fixing my bite so I have to wear the elastic bands.
I've not been the best at wearing the trays although am better now. I think if I was to go back I'd consider fixed braces to take away the faff and so they were just on all the time.

LovedMyInvisalign · 10/05/2021 22:39

My treatment was £3.5k. Best money I ever spent! I was mid 20s when I got it and the difference in how I felt about myself was astounding. My two front teeth twisted in, and I had quite a bad overbite and a twisted bottom tooth too but you never really saw that. My orthodontist shaped my teeth when they were creating space (I had very triangular upper central incisors so it worked well).

My smile went from tight lipped and awkward to full Hollywood cheese! This photo is one of the only ones
I have of my original teeth actually out in a smile because it was a candid. If I posed then my mouth was firmly shut.

It's not the most comfortable process in the world. I had quite a few attachments/buttons which took getting used to, and taking the trays out to eat and drink can be a pain (especially in a past life of work dinner events), but absolutely worth it IME. Go for it Op!

Thanks for all the replies!

Lucky, I'm imagining I'll be more in the region of £3k plus...I just feel guilty at the thought of spending that on myself! I think I would probably put it on a credit card and aim to pay it off as quickly as possible.

Crunchies, what an amazing difference and in such a short time as well! You must be so happy with the results.

fairgame84, how long did you have yours for? Love your pics!

LovedMyInvisalign, wow - you must be so happy with those results! How long did that take?

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 08:35

I think if it was both top and bottom, I'd happily pay £3k for it. But I don't know if I'm happy to do it just for my bottom row which you don't really see 🤔.

It's a tricky one, as I know your smile can drop a bit with age, so they may become more visible.

I'm also not sure I'd get into debt for it, but that's based on my teeth which I'm ok with. I'm happy to smile in pics etc.

It sucks that it isn't available in NHS or insurance usually.

inmyslippers · 11/05/2021 08:41

I don't work for synergy but I saved half up and put the rest on 0% finance for 12months but hoping to get it paid off within 6months. Hate having finance payments but I hate my teeth, I don't like smiling

fairgame84 · 11/05/2021 12:53

I had mine for 8 months.
