DD shaving face!

Jezzabelle · 09/05/2021 22:00

My 15 yo DD has these little razor things. Today I asked what they're for and she told me she uses them to shave between her eyebrows and to take the "peach fuzz" off her cheeks and to shave her upper lip. Surely this will make her super hairy eventually? She really doesn't have any facial hair as far as I can see, but she obviously feels self conscious about what she does have, so what are the alternatives? She hates her arm hair too and wants to bleach it, which I said she could, (anything seems better than shaving!) I am happy for her to wax her top lip, but what should I suggest about cheeks?! I have told her it's natural to have some hair, but that's not cutting the mustard!!

What's wrong with shaving?

applepineapple · 09/05/2021 22:01

Shaving hair doesn't make you hairier... I use the exact same thing on my upper lip. Google dermaplaning, it's basically the same thing.

25yearsnhsworker · 09/05/2021 22:01

Jml flawless is good for face.
My DD has these mocroblades too.

dementedpixie · 09/05/2021 22:02

Shaving doesn't make you hairier

CarnationCat · 09/05/2021 22:03

Those little razors are a new trend. I think they're to make the skin extra smooth so makeup looks 'better' and smoother.

I'm not sure what advice to give you. You can't stop her using them. Tell her that hair is likely to grow back thicker.

Nowmum43 · 09/05/2021 22:03

I use these, I think the official term is derma planning. So far I have had no beard growth and I like how smooth it makes my face.
I've only done it twice though but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along to give you more info.
I've never done the whole waxing or bleaching of my face as I've never really needed to do this is the first thing I've done like this. It's pretty amazing how much fuzz you can remove from your face Blush

CarnationCat · 09/05/2021 22:04

Maybe don't tell her that then...as pps have said this is not true Grin

Vetyveriohohoh · 09/05/2021 22:12

Dermaplaning. Very trendy just now. Removing hair does not make you hairier

Jezzabelle · 09/05/2021 22:18

Oh, thank goodness! I've always been told shaving made the hair grow back more coarsely and darker, but sounds like that's not true. I guess I should just let her get on with it then??!

Shaved hair does not grow back thicker. It might feel thicker because the end will be blunt when it grows back but it certainly doesn't make it thicker.

FourteenthDoctor · 09/05/2021 23:09

I've shaved my arms for years

MintyCedric · 09/05/2021 23:12

Yeah my 16yo does it...I was as gobsmacked as you to begin with now I'm thinking I might give it a go!

theemmadilemma · 09/05/2021 23:12

I've shaved my upper lip for year, because it's fine enough to, and didn't ever grow back thicker. 😂

UhtredRagnarson · 09/05/2021 23:15

Tell her that hair is likely to grow back thicker.

Why lie though? Confused

OP I use these. The hair doesn’t grow back thicker. You can’t alter the way a hair grows from the root by snipping the end off it. That’s not how hair growth works. Just like trimming your nails doesn’t make them grow back thicker.

snowdropsandcrocuses · 09/05/2021 23:35

I recently bought the Philips Lumea home laser. I have very dark hair and light skin. I've only used it three times on my chin/neck and top lip and the results are amazing. This may be a better long term solution as facial hair is so bloody depressing. To be honest I've had such bad black thick hairs on my face that the soft peach fuzz is nothing to me! Grin

partyatthepalace · 09/05/2021 23:40

It’s a trend / micro blading

Am sure it will pass but anyway it won’t make her hairier, that’s an old wives tale

My 15yo DD has these aswell. When (and it is quite rare nowadays) I am allowed to kiss her on the cheek she feels stubblyConfused I have, in the past, suggested Nair / threading etc but it turned into a row.
Miseryisabutterfly · 10/05/2021 09:36

I find it depressing that people feel they have to do this. My 5 year old dd has peach fuzz (as do I) and I’d hate for her to think there was anything wrong with it.

Readytogogogo · 10/05/2021 10:16

I've been doing this for a year. Do you want to think about how shaving could make the hair follicle grow thicker hair? It couldn't and doesn't. And because the hair is so thin, it doesn't feel stubbly. If your dd wants to do it, it's absolutely fine.
