Highlight disaster

After waiting over a year for highlights I was excited to go to the hairdresser yesterday. I asked for natural looking blond highlights and ended up with this, does it look as bad as I am thinking?

The hairdresser insisted on putting a dark brown in that it slightly darker than my natural mousy brown colour to 'stop me getting a shadow around my head'. Should I ask her to put some more blond highlights in to blend it more, try a toner or go somewhere else bearing in mind everywhere seems to be booked up for ages. Maybe it will look better as it grows out?

She also said it will blend better after a couple of washes, is this true?

What even is the point of that brown? It’s very warm toned. It doesn’t even look natural - no one’s hair looks like that after being naturally lightened in the sun.

Sorry but cut your losses here and don’t return to her. She’ll mess it up again because she doesn’t have the skill set

happinessischocolate · 09/05/2021 20:24

What is this "shadow around your head" that she's talking about?

mooonstone · 09/05/2021 20:25

@happinessischocolate I wonder if she means OP’s roots as her hair grows out? My hair dresser just tones my roots slightly darker so it blends in as my natural colour grows out. But my slightly darker, I mean blonde but 1-2 shades deeper.

Surroundedbytime · 09/05/2021 20:30

No that’s bad although your second photo is slightly better.

Volcanoexplorer · 09/05/2021 20:32

The second picture is better, but it’s still not great. I’d be concerned about going back to her, but I’ll cost loads if you go somewhere else.

mooonstone · 09/05/2021 20:35

I don’t think you could have won with any response🤷🏼‍♀️ If you agreed with her, she would have been offended too

mooonstone · 09/05/2021 20:35

With certain people you just have to smile and not comment

OldTinHat · 09/05/2021 20:41

Good lord! So sorry OP, I hope you can get it sorted soon. It does look a bit less harsh in your 'washed' pic though.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 09/05/2021 20:56

Second photo looks much better ! I wouldn’t use her again though

Luckyelephant1 · 09/05/2021 21:05

What on earth is she on about 'shadow around head'

Regularsizedrudy · 09/05/2021 21:08

Second photo it’s better but it still looks more like an at home job. There is no way in hell I’d go back to her, I don’t think she has a clue.

TokyoSushi · 09/05/2021 21:13

Sounds like she has no idea what she's doing, I wouldn't go to her again!

Stroopwaffle5000 · 09/05/2021 21:15

I would want a refund because I sure as hell would not be letting her touch my hair ever again!

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 09/05/2021 21:17

I’m so sorry but these are the worst highlights I’ve ever seen. Do NOT go back to this woman! Demand a refund, and go elsewhere.

MarshaBradyo · 09/05/2021 21:19

Oh how disappointing for you, not good at all

You shouldn’t pay

Londontown12 · 09/05/2021 21:33

Wow !! That’s not very good !!
And those brown chunky stripes will go orange the more you wash them !
My professional advise as a stylist would be not to go back and go to a reputable saloon and have some babylights throu that whole crown parting area .
They are so stripy it’s unreal not very up to date with her colour technique tbh
I would wait and have it done properly xx

Ikeameatballs · 09/05/2021 21:55

I’m really sorry but it reminds me of a stripy stair carpet!

Don’t go back, find somewhere else and start again.

BusterGonad · 10/05/2021 05:41

It looks like your hairdresser is stuck in the 90s op.

Paulinefowler · 10/05/2021 05:58

Has this hairdresser done your highlights before? The second pic looks a lot better but even so, this is not what you asked for. If you have previously had good results with this hairdresser I would give them the chance to correct it, if not I would give it a few weeks/washes as the dark tint will fade. Then see about more highlights if you are still not happy.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 10/05/2021 08:58

@Paulinefowler I’m not sure that hairdresser has done anyone’s highlights before!

Paulinefowler · 10/05/2021 10:55

Possibly not! Confused

MoltonSilver · 10/05/2021 11:19

The second photo is much better. I don't think there's a mad rush to get it fixed but you need to find a new hairdresser. A lot depends on whether the brown is semi or permanent. If it's semi it'll lighten as you wash it so time will fix it. If it's permanent it might be easier to darken the blonde a bit instead of trying to lighten the brown.

MoltonSilver · 10/05/2021 11:22

Just looking at the photos again, it looks like the brown has lightened a but already. I think it'll be fine after a few washes.

Thirtyrock39 · 12/05/2021 09:36

Going against the grain I actually really like the colour however I think it's not really what hairdressers generally 'do' at the moment but I always like hi lights that stand out like that and am always disappointed when my colour blends in -I really like this look but it's definitely quite a 00s way of colouring./ however if this isn't what you've asked for it's not great .

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 12/05/2021 11:00

It looks better after washing it.

The first photo would have me back at the salon asking for colour correction.
