Out if date retirides

I've found some Retirides that ran out in October 2020. Unopened and in the box.

I was scared to use it but having seen my face lately I need an intervention.

Would you use it? If so has anyone got a routine I can follow?

I'm using my out of date one. It's gone a bit runny so I know it's not at its best, but I don't see what harm it can do.

I use my out of date tretinoin and it's fine. Not sure if it loses a little potency but it certainly doesn't give a bad reaction. Your tube isn't that out of date, so I'm sure it will be ok.

I'm using a out of date tretinoin, and it still makes me peel if I forget to moisturise before or after.

Smiler1972 · 08/05/2021 22:36

Thank you - I'll crack on. I've just washed my face so is it wait 20 mins or can I just use it? Do I moisturise afterwards?

You can moisturise before or after, it just depends on skin tolerance.

I felt a slight tingle last night but all seems ok this morning - my face hasn't dropped off. Very slight redness but but really noticeable.

Is it recommended to do a couple of times a week?

I'm using 0.025 strength.

@Smiler1972 have you used a retinoid at all previously? If not your skin won’t have developed any tolerance to retinoids so be extremely careful. Effects may be 3-5 days down the track so fine today but you might be very dry and peeling in a few days.

Only use a couple of times a week to start with. Use a pea sized amount for your whole face. Apply to a fully dry face. You can moisturise first (‘buffering’) or moisturise afterwards. I use a moisturiser with the ingredient niacinamide in (cerave) which boosts skins barrier function and helps helps skin tolerate retinoids It’s also essential to use an SPF 50 every day.

I would recommend having a look at Dr Sam Bunting on YouTube who has various videos on starting retinoids. I think she just did an updated one this week.

@Jedstre no I haven't so thanks for the advice. I'll look at applying every three days. I'll also look up Dr Sam on YouTube. It's difficult to know which ones are good videos to watch.

Oh and I'm using a Murad spf 50 especially for this new routine.

Ok so definitely go slow. Dr Sam Bunting is a dermatologist. She does have her own range now, which she advertises heavily, but her advice is still sound.
