BB cream

Hi just looking at the possibility of trying a BB cream. I’m .. ahem ...mature, but even though I say so myself, I do have pretty good skin for my age. For years I’ve used a full foundation. I currently use YSL primer and YSL All Hours foundation which I do like. However, during lockdown I’ve got used to not wearing make up at all and going to full foundation during the daytime now seems a big jump.
I was looking at getting either a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. Does the BB cream give a better finish as I’ve read or would you go for a tinted moisturiser or perhaps a lighter foundation?
Any recommendations please?

Hi OP I used to wear ysl foundation and switched recently to IT cosmetics CC cream.
Have a look at that as a start as its often recommended on here !
You can get it widely and a travel size would be very affordable for a trial.
I am not an expert but I love this product and don't miss the foundation at all.

@Midlifemission I’m interested in trying something new as not sure foundation is doing me any favours any more. What is CC cream & how does it differ to BB cream. What sort of coverage/finish do you get with the IT one? Thank you

I find the bb creams are too dark for me unfortunately.

Darklane · 07/05/2021 09:29

Yes, same here. I’ve yet to find a BB cream or even a tinted moisturiser that is anywhere pale enough not to look tangoed.

On another post I have just mentioned The Boots No7 advance Protect and Perfect Intense spf50 sun protection BB cream. I use it in fair and it gives a light slightly golden coverage on its own at weekends or underneath foundation. I have also used and liked the Clarins BB cream.

Hi thanks for the recommendation. I’ll get a travel size and give it a go. 😊. Thanks again!

Ahh thanks for the heads up re darkness. I’m fairly fair skinned but don’t like to look pale. I would probably have gone for a shade too dark had you not given me the heads up. I need to be careful not to go overboard I think.

The palest BB cream I've found is Missha's -- either this one in a no 13 Perfect cover BB cream from Missha

or this one in a 13 Signature Real Complete BB cream from Missha

The first one is a bit darker, even though the colour no:s are the same. The second one has added "milky" to the description of the colour, maybe that's what makes the difference Wink

These are basically light foundations, a bit more coverage than a tinted moisturiser but easy to just put on with fingers. I've used them for years and like them, but I'm tired of them being just that little bit heavier and also they're tricky to find for me here in Sweden because reasons so I've started using NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil which sadly I can't find on their UK site so maybe they're not going to make it any more - anyway, light coverage, easy to put on, my skin but better, cheap, easy to find, many colours including very pale - ticks my boxes.

Bare minerals complexion rescue is a tinted moisturiser. Great product and not all that dark. You could always lighten products with something like lightening drops, The Body Shop ones are supposed to be good.

I've been using The ordinary serum foundation. It's a step up from BB but a step down from full foundation.
It's been fine and my skin is getting on with it.
It's only £6 so I think it's a keeper

Dead sea magik BB cream is brilliant. Comes in one shade - Natural, and adjusts to your skin tone

I've found La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur to be very good for my oily skin.

Very good coverage for a BB cream but still feel light enough for everyday use.

Fispi · 07/05/2021 13:35

I'm very pale and Erborian BB cream in Clair works for me. It was recommended on here and it really is good. Blurs everything nicely, blends very quickly with fingers and although quite a thick cream doesnt feel heavy. I bought the sample size but will go for the full size next.

lindyloo57 · 07/05/2021 16:37

I have the Erborinn cc cream in Claire, the la Roche posay bb cream it's the thiner of the others, Missa bb cream , it cosmetics cc cream the one most like a foundation, for the last week using boots tinted 30 spf sun cream in light, on top I use a little laura geller balance and brighten for extra colour as its a little light in colour.

MotherPiglet · 07/05/2021 16:43

I use the Collection BB cream. I like its finish, it's not heavy like foundation and have a good range of shades.
