Loreal Casting Creme Gloss - useless on greys?

Hi,

So I'm in a bit of a hair rut. I have naturally dark brown hair, with a growing out (now brassy) balayage and quite a few greys.

I was considering a balayage refresh and root touch up, but I really don't want to use a dark permanent base again, as I'm certain that it causes more hair loss, plus I'd rather avoid PPDs anyway. I'm now wondering if I should just step away from the bleach and go back to my natural colour, but with a bit of a boost.

I know a semi won't cover greys as well, but I don't mind, as long as it covers some and isn't as damaging. Do you just leave it on a bit longer for more grey coverage?

I have used Casting Creme a few times years ago and always found it a bit too dark, so could anyone suggest a shade?

Is this actually a silly thing to do with a balayage though? Will I still have a two toned effect?

TIA

I've used Castings for years and really recommend it. I used to use it to darken my hair but for the last few years I've used it to hide greys. I have naturally dark brown hair. I go for a medium brown shade so it doesn't look too dark/dyed. I like Chocolate Truffle 515 or Iced Truffle 513. The shades starting with 5 work well on medium/dark brown hair. I like cool tones so go for the shades ending with an odd number. If you want a warmer shade go for an even final number.

Ooo great tip @Housewife2010, thanks!

I'm naturally drawn to cool tones, but am wondering if that's just too harsh against my pale, ageing skin.

I think I've tried Iced Truffle and was quite happy. I think it was the Mahogany which was a bit too dark initially, but liked the shade once it calmed down a bit.

Do you leave it on a bit longer for grey coverage?

I use the Iced truffle and leave it on for about 40 mins but I only do the grey round my hairline as it's like a halo . Noticed this time though that it has faded into a gingeryness which I'm not keen on as I like a cool tone.

Hi op
Loreal creme gloss does bot cover my greys at all but the clairol one does

Just a suggestion - have you considered not colouring the greys?! I've had to sue to an allergy and it's bloody brilliant.

It does depend how your greys come through though. I have long dark hair. I now have two sections of grey each side of my parting. They look like cool toned highlights.

I leave it on for 25 minutes. The box has the name on a little cardboard tab under the lid. I often cycle between the 5 cool shades ( I do tend to go for pudding names like truffle, chocolate and brownie). I tear off the name tab and if I'm happy with the shade I leave the cardboard tab in my bathroom cabinet so I can remember the name next time. Also I always save disposable hotel shower caps and wear them over the dye to avoid any mess.

Oh shit - I thought chocolate truffle would be warm. Bugger bugger bugger. Oh well, as long as it covers grey....
