Heel question for Interview outfit?

Eesha · 05/05/2021 05:15

Hello, im struggling a bit to pull together an interview outfit quickly from what i have at home. I like the Reiss style.

Blush pink jacket, white inside top, dark blue slightly a line skirt with thin tan belt, sheer tights

So nude heels or dark blue heels? both patent/shiny

OR same as above with a black fit flare skirt and maybe black heels

I like the idea of the blush jacket with navy a-line skirt but really you need to have a look at both skirts with the jacket and decide which shape suits your figure best. I think overall the combination of jacket and skirt is more important than the shoes.

However... I don't think nude patent shoes found right with a blush jacket. How do the navy shoes and navy skirt go together? Are they the same navy? Shades can vary enormously.

@WildCherryBlossom thank you for replying, i would say they aren't very dark blue, like ink blue if you know what i mean. I think you're right in that nude won't work.

I don’t think it matters at this point. As an interviewer I will have picked up on the outfit and the fact that an effort has been made (i.e. keen to get the role) and I’ll be focussing on content.
Your outfit sounds really good by the way, always prefer a contrasting jacket rather than a suit.

@Procrastatron thank you for the boost, it really helped more than you know

Oh that’s really kind of you. I hope your interview goes well!

BigPyjamas · 05/05/2021 15:04

Whilst I'm sure no one would be looking at your shoes, and all outfit choices sound decent, I'd opt for a darker shoe.

Nude shoes are a bit dated (sorry, I cringe when I write this and ignore me if you want to, I'm no style icon by any stretch), and probably better suited to weddings and christenings.

Blue and pink is good, black and pink also good.

What's the role? How exciting to have a face to face interview these days!!

murbblurb · 05/05/2021 15:05

smart, clean, tidy and in shoes that mean you can walk not stagger. All else is irrelevant.

good luck!!

Hey all, suit was a success but didn't get the role. Im a single parent and they had concerns about me having to leaving at 4.30pm and picking up later.

I'm sorry to hear that but glad you felt good in the suit. Now you can replicate the outfit for the next interview.

Did they specifically ask you about children or pick up times or did you mention it?

I'd perhaps wait to be offered the role and then ask for flexibility in the future. This method has worked for me before.

Fingers crossed for next time

Eesha · 07/05/2021 18:36

@BigPyjamas yes they asked me directly how i would cope. I didn't say i was a single parent, only that i was a parent. I didn't want to waste their time by over promising but it certainly backfired for me. I've never really come across this type of discrimination before.

@Eesha 😧😧

Are you going to take it further??

Eesha · 07/05/2021 18:50

@Daydrambeliever no, they could distort it im sure. Its just frustrating that these things happen like this. Im very experienced so usually companies are very keen but it's disheartening when you find this happens.

Procrastatron · 07/05/2021 19:00

That’s disgusting but not surprising, I have faced similar in my career.
When will people wrap their head around flexible working and the fact it gets better results.
Was it public or private sector?

Eesha · 07/05/2021 21:23

@Procrastatron private sector. I just need to keep going. I never realised it could happen with me but hopefully something will come up for me to wear my suit combination to!
