No matter what I try I cannot alleviate the dry skin on my cheek and chin. I say cheek as for some unknown reason its only on my left cheek

I drink plenty of water everyday and have spent a fortune on creams, treatments etc.
Have just invested in some DR Hauschka but its a bit too early to tell if its working yet.

Anyone know of any supplements I can take...?

Have tried Eve Primrose and fish oil to no avail.

Help - this is really getting me down but I feel pathetic going to the Docs.
Oh and I don´t think its eczema if anyone was wondering!

I have really dry skin too. I use clinique dramatically different moisturising lotion and then clinique's moisture on line. I use it religiously twice a day and have done for years and it works better than anything else I've tried.

Alternatively Boots might have some dry skin vits and minerals?

DS gets dry skin around his mouth when it's cold and I found plain old basic Emulsifying Ointment to be the best at sorting it out. Also the thick Nivea that you buy in a tin is good.

vaseline does it for me.

geekgirl · 14/11/2007 18:43

I'd try to get it under control with some hydrocortisone cream - the weakest kind you can get. And then moisture with Eucerin face cream (available in Boots). I started a thread about this a few weeks ago, got some really useful info there.

I have this problem too, I get it all around each side of my mouth and on my chin, looks a right mess.

I have tried loads of creams and not many seem to work tbh and I usually resort to smoothering vaseline all over it when i go to bed.

Thanks all and thanks for the link Geekgirl - can´t believe I missed that, looks very useful!

Someone on here, think it was Watling, recommended using Rose water as a toner. Anyway, the only rose water i could find in shops was Rosewater and Glycerine. I've used it as a toner, at first a few times a week, now once or twice and it has completely cleared by dry, patchy skin. My skin is now completely undry (whereas before whatever moisturiser or treatment i used it seemed a temporary patch up and needed moisturiser again by next morning evening). Having suffered from dry skin I would say is def worth a try as only about a pound a bottle.

The other thing I have used previously if dry skin is so dry is red and sore is sudocrem (just on patches, not whole face!)

I've also recently tried a sample of Liz Earle supermoisture which was good.

where did you get the rosewater n glucerine? i can't find it anywhere. i've bought rosewater in france in supermarkets - really cheap and excellent gentle toner.

TheChickenLady · 16/11/2007 09:33

I use bio-oil and Avene products on my dry skin.

bebespain · 16/11/2007 14:36

Have tried bio-oil, not bad but Avene didn´t do it for me did surprise me.

My friend has given me a tub of her son´s Epaderm and I can see the difference already!

I'd second Eucerin (as recommended to me by someone on here) My skin has always been dry (with nice red blotches on regular occasions ) and this was the first thing that has made it feel lovely. Not cheap but worth it.
HTH

bebespain · 16/11/2007 14:55

Thanks for that will try Eucerin as I don´t really want to use the Epaderm long term, its just like putting lard on my face!

Rosewater was from chemists, they had it in boots too. But all of them were rosewater and glycerine. Couldn't find plain rosewater. i'm not sure whether the glycerine is too oily to use every day or not.
