Hooded eyes!

Are the bane of my life Sad

Any tips? Mine aren’t attractive like Blake Lively’s, they make me look tired. I think false eyelashes help but they always come off and I can’t afford to get them properly done every 4 weeks.

What have you found works for you? I love winged eyeliner but it makes me look stupid

Dot of gold or iridescent shadow in the middle of your eyelid (over normal eyeshadow) and extend shadow up beyond the crease (from another owner of hooded eyes. Learned this trick from brilliant make up lady in a Kiko Milano shop a few years ago).

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 04/05/2021 14:57

I have to put my shadow up quite high to make it look like I have a crease. Also a tiny thin line of eye liner, if it goes on thicker I look terrible. I would love the have them surgically done, but from the results I've seen the difference is not massive, but there is an improvement. I'd like to do them before I get older and they start dropping down onto my lash line. I figured I could hopefully use the surgery as a preventative measure. I hate mine and have always just stood at the mirror with tweezers poking my crease higher dreaming about how great it would be to have a higher crease with less of a good

I don't know OP - I have the same problem so am watching with interest. I don't think false lashes help either really.

I don't have much space between my eyes and eyebrows (my eyelashes touch my brows) so I don't think the PP's suggestion of eyeshadow would work for me either

The problem with that, wombat, is that the gold bleeds onto the hood above/over it so you get glimmer on the hood which is not what you want.

Also, does anyone else struggle to find properly Matt eyeshadow? It's always got a sheen to it, which if you are trying to recess the hood is unhelpful.

My mum had a blepharoplasty done and the difference was remarkable. She lives abroad, but qualified to have it done on the equivalent of the NHS. I'd assume in the UK it would be regarded as cosmetic unless very severe. Have you spokent to your GP or enquired on the costs privately?

If you are looking for a non-surgical route, a lash lift can give good results. A friend of mine with South east Asian eyes uses a small, thin, clear, plastic, adhesive thing on each eye lid to open them up more. No idea what its called, but you can tell when she is wearing them.

surgery. Should have done mine years ago.

AppleAppleAppleApple · 04/05/2021 15:39

Can’t afford surgery in the slightest!

I have hooded eyes and although I love winged liner on other people I haven't had any success with it on myself (might be my complete lack of talent). I tried this look recently and loved the way it looked, I probably wouldn't be brave enough to wear this colourful out of the house but I think it would work with neutrals too. Eyeshadow wing from mid lower lash line, and a floating line on the inner third of upper eyelid. From Lisa Eldridges recent YouTube video on colourful eye looks, this is a screenshot from her video I took as a reference.

They can be lifted slightly with strategically placed Botox.

Divineswirls · 05/05/2021 09:40

I love having hooded eyes as you can get away with just mascara. I curl my lashes and wear mascara.

I also wear a mid brown all along my lower lid and blend it up and out at the outer upper part of lid towards the Brow. I wear dark brown liner on the outer edge of my lower lashes. I play about a bit when I'm going out out with a smoky eye and more shimmer etc

Orgasmagorical · 05/05/2021 09:46

picklemewalnuts I found a Clarins one that is matt which I'm quite happy with but I agree they're hard to find.

SirenSays · 05/05/2021 10:49

Practice doing a cut crease to move your crease higher. Use a good eyeshadow primer, I still love Urban Decay Primer Potions. White or nude liner or bottom lash line can help to open up the eyes.

Divineswirls · 05/05/2021 12:26

I used a Mac mid brown Matt eyeshadow which once on never budges. I often apply it over eyeliner which I apply over the whole lower lid. I just prime with foundation and powder, the powder helps with non smudging of any mascara.

Divineswirls · 05/05/2021 12:29

As per previous PP I also add a dot of shimmer eyeshadow in the middle of lower lid. I tend to go for shimmer burnt orange colours which go well with my green eyes and favoured Matt brown shadow

Divineswirls · 05/05/2021 12:30

If I can be bothered I apply a thin line of black liner sort of pushed into the lash line making my lashes look thicker and opening up my eyes

SlateCoaster · 06/09/2021 08:37

An LVL lash lift really makes a big difference. Really opens the eyes up.

BlueBellsArePretty · 06/09/2021 09:36

I had a botox chemical brow lift which has helped.

nickyschof · 07/09/2021 08:26

Avon do an eye cream which has a gel in one half of the pot that you put on your brow. This tightens the brow area, and then a cream for under the eye. About £10. I find it works well.

StCharlotte · 07/09/2021 08:44

I follow what this lady does. It really works!
For the matt eyeshadow, I use a concealer stick which are matt.
