My hair won't hold a curl, please help

I have shoulder length hair, it's fine but there is a LOT of it, very prone to frizz. It's kinky in places, but no curl to speak of.

I can do a ghd curl no problem, but it won't stay for more than an hour (unless I use a tonne of lacquer for a night out, but it's a rats nest in the morning and needs a huge effort to wash and detangle the bugger) . I feel like I've tried every product out there, but I must be missing something.
The look I'm after is Joanne Davidson from Line of Duty, I envy her hair.

I asked this earlier and was recommended Tresemme 7 Day Smooth, I'm on a Superdrug dash tomorrow 😊

@morriszapp I didn't see your thread sorry! Will you let me know how you get on? Good luck

I have the same hair.

Apply some kind of holding mousse or spray beforehand.

Make sure hair is bone dry.

Set wand to 185-190

Hold hair on the wand for 12 seconds.

Release slowly.
Pin up until cool.
Gently shake out.

Spray with firm hold hair spray/liquid umbrella.

Stays in for several hours.

When my hairdresser does it it stays for days.

If its kinky in places, could you try the curly girl method? You might have a natural wave to it if you use moisturising products and let it air dry

chipsandgin · 01/05/2021 09:53

Same hair here too & discovered recently that using Aveda damage remedy cream (the leave in one) & using the GHD to curl they’ll stay, but only if you leave the curl once you’ve done it & don’t touch your hair for about 20 mins. If I mess about with my hair once I’ve done it the curl drops out within an hour or two, but if you let it set the wave stays all day!

I curl Dds hair the same way @TheBullfinch does it. The pinning and cooling I think is key as it really lets the curl set!

My hair is quite fine and very very straight and doesnt hold any style either, I've mostly given up on trying to be honest and just embraced having low maintenance hair.

But in saying that, the best results I've had at holding curls is when I used one of the Fudge products.

I cant remember its exact name but it was a product you put in after washing when your hair is still damp. It was in a metal tube/bottle and had some kind of pump/aerosol on the end. (Sorry I cant remember the name, I last used it 2+ years ago!)

@thebullfinch thank you, I'm clearly not putting enough effort in with the pinning etc, I've been taken in by the YouTube videos where they achieve a head of perfect hair in about 20 seconds Blush

@tuliptuliptulip my hair is completely dead straight on top, it's weird, so the cg method isn't for me, I have tried it though. Plus my hair never air dries, it could still be damp hours later.

@chipsandgin I'll give the aveda a go, thanks.

@atalune I'm glad it works for you as well, I'll definitely try pinning it.

YouTube videos are misleading as most show people with normal or thick hair which holds styles really well.

Difficult to curl hair (fine/straight) will always need more time and attention.
