Self Tanners - recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good self tanner which fades over time, but doesn't wash off?
Ease of use is also a must.

I like St Moritz... cheap and reliable and works with my skin tone

FlorrieLindley · 29/04/2021 13:53

@Redtartanshoes - and does it fade, or wash off?

I always do gradual, dove is my favourite, I can control the level that way

Chocolateteabag · 29/04/2021 14:16

St Moritz works for me too - has a guide colour when I slap it on
Leave to develop (2/3 hours or overnight) and then wash
It then fades (not wash off like Vitaliberata - which I also like)
But you have to be careful not to rub too vigorously

It's like the more £££ versions - they all rub or fade eventually

Another vote for St Moritz.
Goes on nicely with a guide colour and fades nicely too, bonus that it's so cheap too.

A tip I was given is that self tans all have either a "green" base or a "orange" base and you should select one based on your skin tone.

If your skin tone is cool (eg yellow like mine) you need a green base, if it's warm (eg pink) you need the orange.

You can tell the base colour by whatever colour it stains your applicator mitt and towels!

I love fake bake, always seems to go on even and never fades/washes off streaky.

I always want to self tan but I fear that I'll bugger it up and wont be able to leave the house!

Can I ask how you prep properly for self tan and tips for actually doing it? I have the dove gradual one but I haven't used it yet.

I like Dove, but my DD uses Isle of Paradise and it looks good.

FlorrieLindley · 29/04/2021 16:23

I used the Dove one recently, but it goes on clear, so you can't see where you might have gone wrong. Then when it developed, it was a nice colour, but I got splashed washing my hair and where the water hit, it took off the tan, so I was all streaky.
Ideally I'd like something that goes on brown (or guide colour as mentioned above) and then fades, doesn't disappear with water.
Good suggestions, thanks.

@FrangipaniBlue you’ve got that the wrong way round.
A yellow skin tone is a warm one.
Cool is pink. :)

Sienna tanning drops. I use with face cream and body lotion and the result can be tailored to be light and a healthy glow or a much deeper but natural tan.

Haha I thought as I was typing it "I bet I get this the wrong way round?" Grin

It's still green base for yellow skin and orange for pink though Smile
