Dry, thirsty mature skin, what can I do?

Looking for some help from all you knowledgeable beauty people!

My skin on my face has really changed esp over the past few months, its become dry (apart from nose and chin) more lines have appeared and become less 'plump' and looks dehydrated.

I do drink a fair bit of water, 1 coffee a day, SPF, but have alcohol (that has not changed) never smoked, I have used Clarins for years but have been changing to other moisturisers over the last couple of years. Everything from cheap to more expensive, but feel I need more of a structured skin routine. I use a foaming face wash (perfect whip, or Clarins) but dont use toner anymore then use face moisturiser.

I have a number of Japanese brands, that I have tried apart from cream such as DHC deep cleansing oil, Kose emulsion and a few more!

But I am lost with all the choice out there, can anyone help? I am not wanting to spend silly money but open to ideas, sorry that was a bit of a longer post than I intended!

There are several long running, terrifyingly dedicated skincare threads here, which you may have found by now.

If not - the first thing I'd suggest is throwing away your foaming cleanser. The thing that makes it foamy (sorry, my head's mashed atm, can't remember the name of the ingredient) also makes the product drying.

Secondly, is there room for improvement in your diet? It really helps to vastly increase the amount of EV olive oil, fresh vegetables and (some) fruit you consume. In short, concentrate as much on what you put into your body as what you put on your skin.

Lots of good ideas from pp.

HA will help your skin look 'plump'
It is however just cosmetic and doesn't actually plump the skin. It does give you a nice look of your skin is dehydrated.

Make sure you wear a good moisturizer to prevent transdermal water loss to prevent the skin becoming drier.

Are you getting enough B vitamins? My skin Is awful and dry when I don't and a b complex will have B12 and biotin for your skin.

Weleda Skin Food?

Thanks all for your replys, busy looking at the other postings re skincare.

It can all be mind boggling with so many products on the market, sure we all dont want to make expensive mistakes.

I must admit I am not a lover of fruit, but do eat veg/salad with most meals (perhaps should up that) really think on the whole my diet is good (but always room for improvement!) and plenty water, no fizzy drinks or juice type of thing.

The whole HA has me a little confused as well, need to read more about it. But did think my foaming cleanser was ok as esp Perfect Whip is supposed not to be drying.

Thanks again, off for lots of reading whilst wearing my LuLuLun hydrating face mask!

but do eat veg/salad with most meals

... Really the veg/salad should be the meal! (Along with a little well-chosen protein.)

I only started ordering a regular veg box delivery because Ocado fell over last Spring - and the amount of stuff suddenly filling my fridge was a bit Shock. But my goodness - what a difference it's made to my skin and general well being. (I also would have said I ate very well before then.) Family members on FaceTime actually comment on how bright and fresh my skin looks (Blush) - and my mirror sometimes surprises me.

(Other elements of my appearance have really suffered from lockdown, though.)

I wouldn't use anything foaming. Are you wearing a stand alone SPF or just using moisturiser with SPF?

I now add a few drops of Pixi rose oil to my foundation and it makes my face look and feel moisturised all day.

Sorry I'm late to this thread, I saw this a couple of weeks back and it resonated with me so thought I would share some ideas. I have used elemis for that last few years and love the cleansing balm, I'm not sure I'd use anything else to cleanse, I use cotton flannels which I think gently exfoliates and is not drying. I use the marine cream but will try other things as well. My latest hero product is this.

It is fabulous so much so that I will use during the day as well if my skin is partularly dry. Well worth a try for the money.

Try Samantha Sona Kakadu Plum day serum followed by Davidson Plum moisturiser. And Snowflower night cream. I’ve been using them for about a year now and my skin feels lovely.
