Is the Dyson Airwrap Styler worth the money

Please can anyone talk to me about their experience of it. Personally I can’t imagine spending the same amount of money as I spent on my first car but I’ve been reading about the technology and it’s literally sucking me in. Can it really be that good? Does anyone have one and did you feel somewhat anxious spending that much on a hairdryer? I have fine hair but a lot of it, so it takes ages to dry unless I rough dry it and then accept that in can look quite frizzy/messy and I need lots of product and hairspray to get through the day.

I have fine hair. Day to day I use the brush attachment to blow dry straight for ease (7mins from wet to dry straight). It looks SO polished compared to my previous attempts with a normal hairydryer and I feel undressed going out without it!

The actual curling barrels take a bit more practice but you can create a lovely wavy look with this- wet to this look in say 25-30 mins. I think the key with these is to give it a few goes, not expect miracles first try. FleurdeForce and IntheFrow have good Youtube reviews/tutorials.

Essentially £500 for something I have used every day for 2 years and looking unlikely to stop using soon seems good value to me.

I want one too!

My hairdresser used it when I had my hair done and it made my hair more shiny and just genuinely looked more polished.

I have thick curly hair so was amazed by it actually.

Feelingpoorlysick · 27/04/2021 23:32

I bought one and wasn't impressed. It was tricky to use and I can get the same curled effect with my straighteners. Very overpriced in my opinion.

Hopdathelf · 28/04/2021 08:29

I also have lots of fine hair. I like the brush attachments but not the curling barrels. Like a PP said, with a good bit of practise you can do curls in 25-30 minutes. With a wand I can blast dry then do beach waves in 15 minutes start to finish. You still have to mostly dry the hair first then do the barrels. That said, I don’t do it frequently, no more than once per week. If I was a regular curler then the Airwrap being gentler on hair might be an attraction.

I've had one for 18 months and I love it, though it does take a bit of practice to get used to. My hair feels in better condition than it did before and looks sleeker. I think it's worth it and am thinking about buying some of the extra barrels to get a bit more adventurous, currently I don't do curls but use the curling barrels to add some shape to the front for when I'm facing the Zoom camera all day...

Iorderedyouapancake · 28/04/2021 14:19

Not worth it for me- never use it as it’s so time consuming and the curls don’t hold. I prefer my babyliss big hair

JoanDarc · 28/04/2021 14:42

I’ve got one and have long hair which is fine but lots of it. It needs washed every day and the longer it was getting it was such a chore. Day to day I’ll use the drying attachment for a few mins to rough dry then finish off with the barrel brush.
I’m only starting to get to grips with the curls and do this when I’ve got time. I actually find it easier drying my hair then spritzing the sections to curl with water as I find I can add in volume at roots this way by drying first. You definitely need to practice it and there are easier ways to do curls, but that wasn’t my main motivation for buying it.
I do love it and the packaging and presentation does feel luxurious. Would buy again (but hopefully not for a very long time!)
I purchased from boots and got £70 advantage card points so worth keeping an eye out on deals.

Pinktruffle · 28/04/2021 14:55

I was given one for my birthday last year. I use the hair dryer and brush attachments all the time and they leave my hair looking great I also use the spiky radial brush for volume and drying. I love being able to dry and style my hair in one go, especially with a 5 month old baby, makes my life so much easier. The actual curler I think takes longer to master, and I haven't mastered it yet. I've used it a couple of times and Inlike the way it looks but still a work in progress for me.

minniep · 28/04/2021 15:02

I have fine dry crappy hair and yes it's worth it my opinion. I get get the same style from other styling tools but I've never had such soft hair ever before. It really doesn't damage it at all. The overall condition of my hair is unbelievable.

MabelMoo23 · 28/04/2021 20:42

I have one, but don’t use it for the barrels. I use the brush attachments and they are fab. I have thinning hair with a bit of fluff and it’s fantastic for giving me a bit of oomph but still staying sleek. I love it, but rarely use the barrels

KatharinaRosalie · 28/04/2021 20:46

I love mine. Takes me literally just a few minutes with the barrels to get a bouncy polished hairstyle (I don't really use them for proper curling, just adding volume). And yes my hair is in so much better condition.

GreyHare · 29/04/2021 00:16

Hated mine, I have fine hair, the brushes didn't do anything at all, I even spent an extra £30 for the fine hair brush and it was still shit, the curls just dropped out after 5 minutes and the only attachment wort using was the round barrel brush, but not worth the money for just the barrel brush, I sold mine and brought the original Revlon One Step which was a fraction of the price but gives me a bouncy blow dry in half the time. I am not a complete Dyson hater as I have hairdryer and love it, just the Airwrap and Straighteners are pants.

Confusedandshaken · 29/04/2021 07:29

I have the Dyson classic dryer and the Airwrap. Love the classic but after nearly 2 years still can't get a lasting curl with the Airwrap. I keep on trying because it was so expensive but It's been a huge disappointment

SorrelForbes · 29/04/2021 13:05

I love mine and pretty much use it every day. I have a lot (bra band length) long, frizzy hair and this has made such a difference to the condition and the time I spend on my mop!

I use the dryer attachment to blast down my fringe (20 secs) and to rough dry the rest (1 min). Then I use the brush attachment to dry and smooth (5 mins). I can create very loose, big waves with the brush (just by twisting it as I dry each a section) or I can use the barrels to do curls and tighter waves. (20 mins max)

It did take a while to get used to, especially using the curling barrels (you need to use these from wet/damp, full/medium heat for at least 15 secs then use the cool shot to get the curls to stay) but I wouldn't be without it now.

insomniaisaballbag · 29/04/2021 13:10

Curling barrels are shite. But the brush attachments and round barrel are great. I have a GHD hairdryer as well and I could never use it again. It doesn't compare at all.

G5000 · 29/04/2021 14:58

Curling barrels are the most amazing invention ever. I only need to hold it near my hair and it wraps beautifully around the barrel, no effort required. No burned fingers from normal tongs, no hair flying everywhere or tangled in brush like with BBH and similar. Brilliant.

Cocoloda · 01/05/2021 15:55

Sent mine back. I'm fairly good with styling my hair, but considering the cost I found it too much of a faff and the curls didnt hold.

Happyhome21 · 01/05/2021 21:05

I have fine / medium wavy hair - lots of it wnd prone to frizz
I use it once a week
Dry hair around 80%
Use barrel to straighten fringe
Wands to curl around my face etc
Hair looks nice all week

Midway I spray hair with water and re do curls or if I get caught in the rain
I really do it like it

BlueVelvetStars · 01/05/2021 21:20

I have the entire collection air wrap brushes/barrels in case and hair dryer all sat in the original boxes. Ive used then maybe for a month and repacked them as I use my Revlon OneStep Brush dryer, its so much quicker.

ChrissyPlummer · 01/05/2021 21:39

Love the hairdryer, also liked the brush thing attachment when I had longer hair. The curlers were crap. I’ve got very thick hair that is neither straight nor curly, the curls just did not hold; I could get three days out of my Secret Curl or Aurora Band. I didn’t expect corkscrew curls but it just looked messy and was SUCH a bloody faff. Too wet? Won’t work, by the time one side was dry enough and that had been done, the other side was too dry so had to be sprayed with water.

I’m contemplating selling mine and just getting the dryer. I have a pixie cut now so don’t need much else.

Perdita40 · 02/05/2021 07:56

One of the best things I've bought!

My hair always looks like a salon blow dry when I use it & stays.
