Suncream for Face recommendations anyone?

SouthOfFrance · 27/04/2021 13:07

I'm in need of a suncream for my face to go under make up. I have quite oily skin already so something that doesn't make that worse and that lasts well would be good.
Budget-wise, preferably something not too expensive, but any suggestions welcome & also what to look out for or avoid?

I’ve been using La Roche Posay factor 50 anti-imperfections for a week and it’s a revelation! Doesn’t break me out, dries to a smooth finish and sits beautifully under makeup in fact it’s behaving almost like a primer. I’ve tried so many facial sun screens but this one is the only one I haven’t dreaded putting on in the morning!

Biore Watery Essence is The One. No white caste, not oily, sinks it n without a trace. Nothing else comes close!

mymymy0 · 27/04/2021 13:16

Eucerin

Plumpciousness · 27/04/2021 13:33

For oily skin look out for 'mattifying' or 'anti-shine' sunscreen.

My face looks very shiny with normal facial sunscreens and I worked my way through the easily available mattifying ones (ie high street brands) but eventually tried the more upmarket (and more expensive) brands (Vichy and La Roche-Posay) and settled on La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine, which I've been using ever since. It keeps my skin matt and I like that it's fragrance-free.

There's a white version and tinted version. The white is a bit 'whitefying' but I have pale skin so it's not very noticeable early in the season. I sometime put tinted BB cream on top. The tinted version is slightly darker than my skin tone but works well for me later in the season after I've developed a bit of colour, and I don't need to use BB cream too.

It's £18 full price but look around online and you'll find it online for less, eg:
www.boots.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-anti-shine-sun-cream-gel-spf-50-plus-50-ml-10155052

Make sure you look for the 'anti-shine' version.

Thank you everyone, will take a look at all the suggestions.
Plump tempted by that tinted version, might be able to do away with my foundation! And it's on offer at the moment!

I did like LRP Antholios until I accidentally (twice!) bought the tinted version which I find very orangey on me. I switched to Ecerin which I think is good but not quite as mattifying as the LRP, I find it's fine with a bit of powder though.

I would say having tried a few of the lower priced ones (under £10) it's better to go with the slightly more expensive ones for oily skin.

Remember that you need more sunscreen than you think, seems to be about a teaspoon full for your face.(says web md who are reasonably reliable). No face paint provides uv protection, the labels are all lies, so prioritise the real stuff.

Luckystar1 · 27/04/2021 13:56

I 100% recommend Heliocare 360 the gel one. It’s absolutely amazing. Sinks in very quickly, no shine, and it really, really works.

cannaethink · 27/04/2021 13:57

I second Biore watery essence. I’ve got the Eucerin one too but it’s not nearly as nice. The Biore just disappears on my face so make up sits fine on top. The Eucerin one is still very much there although my make up sits fine, it doesn’t pil or anything, just feels a bit oily.

simbobs · 27/04/2021 14:28

All of these are good but none are once a day, and need to be reapplied. Only Ultrasun lasts all day as far as I know, and that should go on first.

SouthOfFrance · 27/04/2021 14:35

Where do you buy the Biore one from in the UK?

Blurb wow that's way more than I would have thought to put on, thanks for that.

I use this

delilahbucket · 27/04/2021 17:47

I really rate Piz Buin Dry Touch Face Fluid. It's the only one that doesn't break my skin out and I use it daily instead of my usual moisturiser.

CornishTiger · 27/04/2021 21:40

I use la Roche posey too. It’s good.

WeeM · 27/04/2021 23:10

I’ve been using this one since seeing it recommended on here: [Etude] Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk 55ml (1.85 fl.Oz.) SPF 50+ PA+++ www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0899WPKB9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_K4D1VAP9BV78TQ46Z1FJ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I also have oily skin and find it works well. A few reviews talk about a white cast but I have really pale skin so I don’t find this an issue. The Biote Watery Essence is on Amazon too and I quite fancy giving that a go as well. And am also now intrigued by the La Roche Possay Grin

MorrisZapp · 27/04/2021 23:14

I bought a lacura one in Aldi, clearly meant to be a dupe of L'Oréal revitalift or something with an spf of 30.

It's awful. I dashed back indoors to wash my face.

Greenbriar · 27/04/2021 23:22

I have oily skin and use Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50+, non greasy and just disappears into the skin

JellyTots2009 · 27/04/2021 23:23

Morris I was just coming in to say that the Aldi lacuna revitalising cream is amazing!
I'm surprised you didn't like it.

I haven't found anything as good as this and have been using just over a month now.

I wear makeup pretty much everyday and by 1-2pm most of my foundation is patchy and coming off.

Since using this, my make up stays put until night time. I can't believe how good it stays on! And I haven't changed any of my products either.

Plus my skin is so soft when it is make up free I absolutely love it.

It has a SPF of 30. It does say on the box for age 40+, but I'm only early 30's nothing wrong with starting early.

TeensWithCrackedScreens · 27/04/2021 23:28

I've found Jason family sunscreen very good under make-up. My trouble is finding make-up that doesn't rub off or bring me out in spots if I go somewhere I have to wear a face mask...

Fumnudge · 27/04/2021 23:39

I have Ultrasun 50 for face and even on normal skin it's a complete oil slick even though it was recommended as not so. Sad to say but avoid. A bit of an expensive mistake for me.
I'd love to try La Roche Possay but does it really sink in completely so I can put foundation over? I hate pilling too.
I have so many expensive mistakes in my makeup drawer Sad
