Charm bracelet

I'd like to buy a charm bracelet for my daughter to add a charm to every birthday until she is 18. Pandora seems to have the best selection of charms but I'm not a huge fan. Can anyone recommend one or am I better going into an independent jewellers to find a bracelet there? Thanks in advance!

My dm got me and dd1 pandora bracelets at different times. The problem we both have is how heavy they get when you have gathered a few charms on there.

She got dd2 a Thomas Sabo one and it is lighter.

I bought my god daughter Tiffanys which I thought was chunkyish until I saw Pandora's!

Thomas Sabo is worth a look. We bought one for our dd when she was 7 & added charms over a number of years. She a teen now & not into wearing it but she loves looking at it & I reckon when she gets a bit older again she'll come back round to wearing it.

I have a number of these and they are very wearable and no dangling charms.

You need to ask what she prefers first

Pandora might date, how old is your daughter now?

I have a chunky silver charm bracelet with a heart lock that my Dad bought for my 18th, it matches the one he bought my Mum. I have since has the charms removed as I prefer the bracelet plain. Would this be an option instead of a branded one like Pandora/thomas sabo?

I know people in their 70s who love their pandora charm bracelets.

It's been around for so long now I think it's gone past the naff stage perhaps as nowhere sells such a vast array of charms.

I used to think they were a bit meh till DD wanted one and now I just adore all the cute charms I can get her for birthdays and Xmas

Links of London

Nomination bracelet?

Really personal, massive choice of links in silver/yellow gold/rose gold, simple design so not chunky or heavy to wear Smile

They’re a bit outdated. Check with your daughter as silver isn’t trendy any more, I only wear gold nowadays.

Restingpotato · 27/04/2021 13:48

Thanks for all the suggestions. It is a gift for her 1st birthday and subsequent ones, I suppose as much for me as for her as I'll have all the fun picking the charms. My mum had something similar and I love looking at it so thought I'd do the same for my little girl

It's such a lovely idea OP, I hope you go ahead with it. Nothing more to add other than I have always wanted a silver charm bracelet, gold and rise gold are fashionable now but ultimately I think silver suits me better and I am constantly looking on eBay for vintage options. If I was going to start now, though I think Thomas Sabo have some really great options and charms but it wouldn't bother me to have a bit of a mix and match situation. I think you have years of enjoyable collecting ahead of you and your daughter will end up with a very treasured piece of jewellery.

Have you thought of vintage? I love buying vintage charms, they're a lot more fun and individual than modern ones. I bought a lovely one just last week - it's a church which opens and you can see a couple getting married inside Smile

If you search vintage silver or gold charms on eBay you'll find loads, and local vintage/second hand jewellers usually have a good selection, too. Added bonus is they're also a lot cheaper than Pandora/Nomination etc (and much lovelier imo!).

I have a charm bracelet which I bought on holiday a few years ago - just a silver bracelet with large links and a traditional heart shaped catch. I've added to it continually over the years with traditional charms from places I visit. It's not very comfortable to wear though, a bit spiky.
