Olaplex - I think it is working!

I’ve bought loads of hair treatments over the years for my dry, very fine and not much of it, hair. Best I’d found, by far, with Elasticizer.

And two weeks ago, I started using Olaplex. I bought 0 and 3 and have used them three times now. Fair feels really really soft and healthier. I haven’t used it enough to know whether it does build the bonds back in my hair, but I am impressed so far. Might buy the shampoo and conditioner too.

That sounds amazing. Do you use them every day? I could do with an idiots guide! Grin

partyatthepalace · 26/04/2021 20:29

Ooh that’s interesting, I have same kind of hair and think Elasticiser is the best - why does Olaplex come in 0 and 3?

WellTidy · 26/04/2021 20:34

I went into the olaplex website and filled out their questionnaire. It recommended the 0 and 3 so thats what I bought. I’ve used them a week apart now, three times.

I just followed the instructions. Put the 0 on, waited ten minutes, put the 3 on, waited another ten minutes, then rinsed it all out. And then washed and conditioned my hair as normal.

There are lots of different products within the olaplex range with different numbers depending on your hair needs.

@partyatthepalace 1 and 2 are in salon treatments, 0 and 3 are the at home equivalent

WellTidy · 26/04/2021 20:37

apple are the salon treatments better (in terms of active ingredients) would you say?

LucyLatimer · 27/04/2021 08:07

My hairdresser says to alternate olaplex treatments with elasticizer, as they do different things. My hair is pretty bleach damaged on the ends but when I do this it looks good and feels soft

WellTidy · 27/04/2021 08:31

That makes sense Lucy as the olaplex is marketed as a bond builder and the elasticizer is a super conditioner. I have never spent so much on my hair in my life though - these products aren’t cheap.

I'd say that the salon versions are more potent, the at hone versions top up the effects but even if you use them without having had the salon treatment they do still work Smile

WellTidy · 27/04/2021 19:54

Thank you. My salon doesn’t offer it, unfortunately.

I have in salon Olaplex treatments once or twice a month, it's fantastic, it's saved my hair

dudsville · 28/04/2021 21:19

This is interesting to me, I've always been curious but easy. It sounds like we have similar hair and like you and pp's elasticiser (extreme for me) is the best I've found. I'm off to Google for the olaplex site!

I have this and will get 4 applications out of the set which was 42 pounds or thereabout ? It certainly is cheaper than getting it done at the salon. In fact my hairdresser said do it at home.
Ariannah · 28/04/2021 21:24

I’ve been tempted to try Olaplex. Sounds great and it’s cruelty free as well. The website seems to recommend 0 and 3 for everyone to use at home. Is the salon treatment better? Do you need both?

Yellowbowlbanana · 28/04/2021 21:25

I use the number 7 oil now. I have previously used a number of their products but this one has worked the best for me.

dudsville · 28/04/2021 21:43

I did the questionnaire several times, only thing I never changed was "fine hair", and got the same results each time.

I've bought a trial kit that has a 3,4,5, &6, and I also bought an "0" as that wasn't included in the kit but seems to be a part of the process. I wish more of the expensive brands sold trial kits!

Loocheeyar · 29/04/2021 00:09

I bought a dupe set from revolution and it’s fantastic also I can’t tell the difference between that and the olaplex
Although the oil is really lovely and light well worth having
I have quite fine hair though but it’s never looked better

dudsville · 01/05/2021 12:50

Damn it. I just did the olaplex 0, 3, 4, 5, and 6. My hair looks great.

I put the 0 on dry hair, saturated, for 10 min (may have been 15) I found that fiddly and time consuming. I put the 3 on top of this and let that sit for 45 min, then did 4, 5, left my hair in a towel for a bit (I never aggressively towel dry) and then 6 (think I used too much of this), I followed with a rough blow dry. My hair is quit dry by nature so this doesn't take long and I always use minimal heat and just swish the dryer around a lot, no brush.

At this stage I was not at all impressed. My hair was just as bushy, if not more so, as it would normally be at this stage, but I carried on with my routine. Normally I use curling tongs on the lowest setting for a quick count of 8, just to remind my hair what it needs to do, and the result is usually extremely full bodied shrubbery! As a result I usually do this of an evening and by morning it settles into just a full bodied state that will hold for 3 or 4 days without brushing or adding any other treatments.

Today I only needed to count to 4, I rang my fingers through to loosen the curls straight away. I usually I leave it until I'm done and they're all cool but these felt more solid, maybe I could have just done a quick count of 2.

I now have shiny bouncy, curls, it feels light and not laden with product, it has the normal body rather than the extreme shrubbery I'm normally left with. Why are my holy grail products always so damn expensive! I'm wondering which steps I might be able to trade for cheaper things, like keeping the 0 and 3, maybe 6 but using a cheaper shampoo and conditioner - i'll do some research.

TheChosenTwo · 01/05/2021 13:31

I have used 0 and 3 for years and think it’s really helped keep my hair in good condition between colouring appointments. People have asked me before what I use on my hair as it looks healthy and swishy (sorry, that sounds so braggy, I don’t mean people stop and ask me in the street or anything, just friends and colleagues occasionally Grin ).
I haven’t bothered this last year and it really shows!
Just bought myself number 8 which I think is probably similar to 3 but I was running low on that anyway, I wanted to try it out.

Whiffle77 · 01/05/2021 15:48

Wouldn't recommend the shampoo and conditioner, they made my scalp so dry and itchy! Took awhile to recover. Love 3 and 6 though

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/05/2021 16:29

I recently used the Pureplex system and found it really good. A lot less expensive than Olaplex. I got it in Superdrug but I think you can get it in other shops too.

Loocheeyar · 01/05/2021 23:17

Honestly try the revolution plex dupes they seem identical to me my hair has never been better
The number 6 can cause flaky scalp if I use too much or maybe I left the three on too long

Whiffle77 · 02/05/2021 06:30

I looked into this one and the ingredients are so different, the revolution is heavily silicone based whereas olaplex 3 is not. So I've stuck with olaplex for now as I figure its treating the hair differently
mylovelydd · 02/05/2021 11:18

Also recommending the pureplex system. My hair looks and feels great after and it's dry as a bone normally

HousewifeNumber10 · 02/05/2021 18:13

I bought 1 and 2 from eBay - during lockdown. Made my hair really soft - in fact it was so silky I couldn't style it. If my hair had been in really bad condition it probably would have been amazing
I then bought the 0 and 3 - not quite as soft but actually better for me -- my hair is medium textured and bleached highlights- it's got a wave so the ends can get dry but it's cut regularly and I'm now using a split end trimmer.
Olaplex does have silicone in though - dimethicone is a silicone.

Yes, I only meant olaplex 3 is silicone free - that doesn't have dimethicone in. Some of the others do (although not tried them all)
