Help me with skincare!

Hi. I'm 41, and have no skincare regimen except a quick wipe with a baby wipe each night and a Clinique moisturiser before make up each morning. Without make up I have very red cheeks from either side of my nose outward, red skin on the side of my nostrils, brown/yellowy/purple eyelids and under eyes, rest of my face is kind of a off white! I'm fair skinned, blue eyes. My skin is oily with large pores. I've never had a facial, maybe that's the place to start. SORRY if this has been asked a million times and feel free to point me to threads with the answers. I almost need a diagnostic quiz that isn't related to one company or brand but can't find one. Help me! I just look awful. Confused

Maybe the red skin is because you’re not looking after it. It may well be oily through over production because you’re stripping the skin. It might be worth a facial with a reputable facialist who uses multiple brands to figure out a routine for you.

Where are you based?

Xztop · 26/04/2021 18:50

I would guess your skin like like that because you're not looking after it.... I posted on another thread about my skincare routine. I'm 42, I cant afford anything expensive so I mostly use products from aldi or lidl and I actually find them really good.
Every night I cleanse, tone, use serum and then either day or night cream followed by an eye cream.
I use a soap free face wash maybe twice a week.
I also bought some blackhead removal strips which I use about once a month.
My skin is in very good condition (no comment on the rest of me, lol!)

Stop with the wipes. They'll be contributing to the redness. Get a decent facewash, or cleanser and toner.

RavingAnnie · 26/04/2021 19:05

Could the redness be rosacea?

skinhelp · 26/04/2021 20:07

It could be rosecea or however it's spelt but I have no idea how to treat, will Google.

Ok so see a facialist, no baby wipes and simple routine - I have the 3 step Clinique stuff so could start there? Has anyone found anything that works on very dark skin on the eyelids ?
And thank you

@Xztop have you seen a considerable improvement or did you start with good skin?

@skinhelp My skin was dry on my face and my forehead was oily but now it's normal all over. It took a few weeks to see improvement x

There are various customisations to the 3 step routine from Clinique so depending what you have it could suit you perfectly or be terrible for you.

Disclaimer- I'm not a skincare expert, just someone a similar age to you who has only recently worked out a 'regime'. Please feel free to disregard everything I say!

I would start by ditching the baby wipes and trying a very simple regime of just cleanser, moisturiser, plus spf in the day time. I use CeraVe moisturising cleanser and lotion and I like them, but there's obviously loads of options so it's just a case of finding something that works for you and then using it twice a day.

Once you've been doing that for a few weeks you'll be able to tell what your main issues are and can think about adding an 'active' - maybe as a serum before your moisturiser. These are more specific (and expensive!) - but the internet is full of information. Just don't try and fix everything at once and use loads of new products, you won't be able to tell what's working and what's useless or counterproductive.

That’s good advice. Go bland until your skin has settled.
