Oscars fashion - let's be trivial.

A lovely frivolous thread dissecting the frocks (and the DJs) from last night. Yes it's trivial, yes it's unimportant but so pretty!

Who looked best?

Absolutely- loved Glenn Close's shalwar kameez outfit.

I also loved that Chloe Zhao wore white trainers. She clearly DGAF about fashion or makeup but is 39 and could pass for 29!

It's a shame that there won't be any after parties this year because there's usually even more glamour at those.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/04/2021 17:44

Amanda Seyfried dress was very odd, the lack of shoulder completely threw the silhouette.

Carrey Mulligan looks lovely.

tobee · 26/04/2021 17:51

Loved Viola Davis's dress, and Carey Mulligan's.

Olivia Colman's dress looked like a red version of last years as far as I remember? A bit too sort of bandagey/Egyptian mummy styley.

MrsBerthaRochester · 26/04/2021 17:51

I thought Carey mulligans was horrible! Bra top and huge skirt is not Oscar worthy fashion! And her hair looked greasy. Zendaya just about pulled hers off as she is young and very thin.
Reece Witherspoon's looked dated. Glenn close looked fabulous but by far the most beautiful was Margot Robbie.

tobee · 26/04/2021 17:54

I did think it was a bit dress -up -or -dress -down -it's- a /pandemic feel! You'd have thought people would be delighted to dress up finally!

tobee · 26/04/2021 17:59

Just had a flick through Vogue's online pages. Amused by Questlove's gold crocs!

I LOVE the pink suit

HelenHywater · 26/04/2021 20:24

I really liked Yuh-Jung Youn's dress and Chloe Zhao's also.

From the more traditional ones, I think Margot Robbie looked good.

Zendaya would look brilliant in anything, although I'm not a huge fan of the yellow. Reese Witherspoon looked matronly I think, and Vanessa Kirby's make up was not good.

I think Carey Mulligan is very pretty and looked good too.

partyatthepalace · 26/04/2021 20:41

The only one that stood out to me was Laura Dern - librarian on top, swan below - great and original. I thought Amanda Seyfried did great old school glamour - but 50% too much cleavage. Zendaya looked 50% great, 50% Bahamas all inclusive, Margot Robbie looked nice but v paired down, Everyone else - v dull.

DareIask · 26/04/2021 20:45

Emerald Fennel's hair? I think she's stunning but her hair was 🤷‍♀️

KillingMeDeftly · 26/04/2021 20:46

I miss the days when someone would wear something utterly bonkers like Bjork's swan dress or Cher's Bob Mackies, something that people would still be talking about for years.

Now they're all just so damn tasteful!

tobee · 26/04/2021 20:48

I didn't recognise Margot Robbie at first. She looked like she was about 20 years older than she is.

tobee · 26/04/2021 20:49

There were a lot of velvet jackets going on with the men.

BeaLola · 26/04/2021 21:30

I thought Vanessa Kirby dress, hair and make up were all wrong . The pale pink reminded me of Gwyneth's Oscar winning outfit but wasn't wow enough, the hair looked so greasy and the dark bold lip was too much - when I see her on chat shows etc she jigbslky looks really lovely

I haven't seen any dresses that wowed me this year

In fact the man in the pink suit wins Smile

Jolitofinjo · 26/04/2021 22:12

So disappointed with most of the looks this year. No standout, no showstopper....
