Does anyone still wear capris?

Are capris for old ladies? I'm thinking mid-calf length, not cropped pants.

I like them because...
I don't like to wear shorts in town - ok for sport or beach/back yard
Skirts require me to sit like a lady
Crop pants are too long

your thoughts?

I like them

That's all that matters, what other people do is irrelevant.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 26/04/2021 07:07

My mother does. Mostly in pastel colours with matching t-shirts.
She mainly buys them in M&S.
If you reckon they fit the bill for you - go for it.
Personally I prefer cropped trousers either wide legged or slim fit

FluffyBlueJumper · 26/04/2021 08:34

Oh, another clothing item I had no idea was considered frumpy / old-ladyish before Mumsnet! Wink

I like them for the same reasons as you. So I wear them.

CatNamedEaster · 26/04/2021 08:37

I love them but my calf muscles are too big so they don't sit well in that areaGrin. I have to settle for wide-leg culotte-type or ankle grazers.

Frequentflier · 26/04/2021 08:42

I wear them and am deluded enough to think I look good in them. I am not very trendy though.

Echobelly · 26/04/2021 08:46

Yup, I wear them - they're great for the British spring/summer when it's not quite hot enough for dresses and shorts IMO. That said, they mostly look like cropped trousers on me because I'm only just over 5 foot!

EssexLioness · 26/04/2021 09:08

I really like Capri pants but I do tend to like clothes with a slight retro vibe to them. I see plenty of women wearing them in the summer and I think they look really nice. Had no idea they were supposed to be frumpy either. I thought they were a classic item

Crayfishforyou · 26/04/2021 09:12

I wear them in a sort of vintage 50s way.
I love them, it means I don’t have to shave my legs all the way up when it’s warm and I am feeling lazy
Blush

LizzieMacQueen · 26/04/2021 09:21

It's not an age thing surely but imo they are better suited to women with slim legs.

pommedeterre · 26/04/2021 09:23

I like them for work in the summer.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 26/04/2021 09:29

I do, they suit the shorter person like myself. Not sure about fashions, but I think they're very Audrey Hepburn and therefore never out of style Smile

pineapples56 · 26/04/2021 09:30

Totally - they're great. My Mum wears them from Spring to as far as she can get away with. The length is ideal - not too long/short and just practical when you're running around doing jobs or whatever. I'm slowly adopting them too (and turning into my Mum) but I think it's the length where they don't bother your ankles yet cover thighs and knees which I really like.

HandleTheJandal · 26/04/2021 10:53

Capris, yes.

Clamdiggers, no.

Blondiney · 26/04/2021 11:12

No, my legs are my best feature but capris do nothing for them.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/04/2021 11:13

I prefer cropped culottes but if you like them that’s all that counts

Tisforptarmigan · 26/04/2021 15:00

I like them, although an admittedly slightly old.

I didn't realise they were a bit crap. My unsightly knees demand to be covered even in the summer, so shorts are not for me.

Will be wearing them again this summer.

mdinbc · 26/04/2021 19:42

HandletheJandal - what is the difference between capris and clamdiggers?

OP posts:
OhShitShit · 26/04/2021 19:45

I’ve been rewatching Mrs Maisel and although I’m 4 times her size, Capri pants feel very very appealing right now.

MrsBerthaRochester · 27/04/2021 00:42

I usually exclusively wear dresses but just bought two pairs for days when I can't be arsed wearing hold ups or shaving my legs! I like a vintage vibe so bought a leopard print pair from Collectif clothing and a red pair from Hell bunny. Black gypsy style top to go with both.

Iamthewombat · 27/04/2021 00:47

I think that clamdiggers go to your knee whereas capris extend at least a few inches below. Rendering capris more flattering if you don’t want to focus attention on your thighs.

HandleTheJandal · 27/04/2021 02:21

Clamdiggers are baggier than capris, a bit shorter, and are more casual and associated with the beach:

HandleTheJandal · 27/04/2021 10:51

To clarify, I like capris and dislike clamdiggers.

EssexLioness · 27/04/2021 15:49

I agree, think capris look much nicer
