Apple Watch & sensitive skin

Has anyone with sensitive skin got an apple watch? I can’t wear certain metals so have just been using fitbit as a watch. Would like an apple watch but am worried about it reacting and making me itch & wasting alot of money. I know it’s not a metal strap but wondered if there are any parts to it that might be. I looked online but couldn’t see anything about it being hypoallergenic.

This may help you OP. My daughter has sensitive skin and has had no problem with the watch itself but we did have to swap the rubbery type strap for a fabric one.

I have quite a bad nickel allergy and wear an Apple Watch with no issues whatsoever. I also bought a leather strap from Amazon that I sometimes wear and was fine with that also but I did paint some clear nail varnish on the metal buckle just in case

I also have a nickel allergy and to some other cheap metals too but have never had any issues with Apple watch.

The Fitbit irritated me way more than the Apple Watch

Zeldaaa · 25/04/2021 10:14

I reacted very badly to the Fitbit.

With the Apple Watch I reacted to the sports bands (it has a round metal fastener). I switched it out to a leather strap from Etsy or Amazon and it’s been fine since then.

I reacted to a Fitbit but have been wearing an Apple Watch for years with no issues. I wear it with a fabric sports strap with a Velcro fastener.

Nickel allergy and apple watch here, no problems at all.

I have very reactive skin and am fine with my Apple Watch. I have the fabric Velcro strap and find that very comfortable.

Thank you all this is very reassuring - are they worth the money do you think - i’d like to use mine for reminders & health fitness tracking. What else do you find them useful for?

I use it a lot for messaging. The voice recognition is really good so I can do ‘Hey Siri send message to DH I’m at the shops do you want anything?’ (or press the button to get Siri) without having to fish my phone out of my bag. It feels a bit futuristic. You can also quickly ask Siri random questions like how old an actor is or the rotten tomatoes rating for a film.

I’ve got the weather on my watch face and often use the weather app to see if it’s going to rain soon, or the week ahead forecast.

I use the timer all the time for cooking.

The fitness stuff is fab.

But most invaluable is the button you can press on it to make your phone ping when you can’t find it.

Yes, especially the 'ping' Grin

I have sensitive skin (cannot wear any non silver/ gold - even metal rivets on sandals irritated my foot!) and have no issues. I have the Nike band I think which is all fabric. It's also a loop so cannot come undone and fall off.

EventuallyDistracted · 25/04/2021 13:13

I use mine for fitness tracking, apple pay, picking up messages when I haven't got my phone on me, the find my phone ping. Occasionally for the timer. Date and outside temperature (I have them on the watch face).

Also navigation, using the maps app when walking without having to keep my phone out. Controlling audio through airpods. So many things. Never found a use for Siri though, if I want to send a message or google something I'm happy to dig out my phone. In fact I need to work out how to switch it off as I keep activating it in error. I don't use it on my phone either.

Thank you for all the responses to my post a couple of weeks back. My DH is going to get me the watch from John Lewis but I’m a bit confused about the straps they come with. Do they tend to come with the rubber sports strap as standard & then you buy other types of strap separately? My friend said when she bought hers it came with 2 straps, not sure where that was from though..
