Fillers and Botox experiences

Hi, just hoping for a balanced filler/Botox experience from anyone who has tried or regularly has it.

Considering cheek filler which will lift the smile lines also and doing the 11 area on forehead.

I have found a clinician who I am happy with and had a consultation but just wondering on others experiences please?

I love Botox, I ask for the non-frozen look and a brow lift. If you're having it for the first time be ready for no longer being able to communicate with your family using a frown Smile

I've tried fillers on various parts of my face, I don't keep it up though, I think it looks too false. It gives a lion look. Maybe have Botox first and then reevaluate. Personally, I think if it looks obvious that you've had something done it can be very ageing.

A decent practitioner will offer a consultation first, many don't. I have had to change practitioner a few times due to moving and there are too many with fab websites and fb pages, but ultimately whip you in, do the injections and take your money. Did you ask for the consultation? Good sign if the practitioner insisted on it. Try to for someone who has knowledge of skincare beyond just injecting, especially if you're having fillers.

AnnieSnap · 20/04/2021 23:26

A lot of cosmetics surgeons who offer Consultations at Private hospitals offer these procedures. They know they are keeping with less qualified people, so they don’t charge much, if any more and they know far more about the anatomy of the face than other practitioners.

Can I ask, what are the 11s?

foodtoorder · 21/04/2021 07:22

I have had a consultation and I have been given a date in early may to go back.
The 11's are the lines that have appeared vertically between my eyebrows all of a sudden!

I've just had my second round of Botox, having been really anxious the first time. I find the idea of fillers going wrong more terrifying / more obvious but that might just be me. I'm happy with the practitioner I use [ex-dentist], he's never tried to upsell me other products but he did point out that I should try Botox under my eyes as well as forehead and between the brows as the movement there would be more obvious... plus it really creases Grin ... so that's what I've gone for this time.

Also, my 11s didn't improve as much as I was hoping the first time so he's gone a bit stronger there this time. I would have gone back for a review two weeks after, as was offered, but we went into regional lockdown.

CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate · 21/04/2021 12:44

I had a subtle headache for about 5m after having Botox, I liked the effect but not enough to have topped up.

You can have filler dissolved if you don't like it, it doesn't have to wear off.
dancemusicsexromance · 21/04/2021 15:16

Love my Botox just had it today after 8 months. I can still move my forehead as I don't chose a frozen look - all my lines are just less pronounced, make up stays on better. I've had fillers few times but I don't really notice a huge difference. Last time I had lips and lines (the area from nose to mouth) that was nice - I'm not trying to look younger I have one very droopy eye and Botox lifts the eyebrow and I like my lines more reduced and the lines between my eyebrows are far less noticeable when I've had Botox - have it twice a year.

Delatron · 21/04/2021 17:01

I have mixed experiences. I do always go to a good doctor/recommendation!
I like Botox once it wears off a bit so month two and three. I find Botox around crows feet can cause lines elsewhere (under the eyes) have seen this on friends too. I find if I can’t frown I use other muscles which causes creases there (under eyebrow for example). I know some love it but I don’t think it is without consequences for other areas of your face. I’ll still probably get it done again at some point to soften frown lines but I don’t think it makes me look younger.

Filler. I had a small amount at top of cheeks and under eye (tear trough). Love the under eye. Fills in the hollows and makes me look less tired. Really didn’t like the cheek, think I looked puffy and weird and she said she underfilled me! I have high cheekbones so maybe it’s my bone structure. I could have got it dissolved but we went in to lockdown. It’s wearing off a bit now.

Personally I’ll be looking in to other treatments such as radio frequency. Then a bit of Botox as the icing on the top.

SwimBaby · 21/04/2021 17:55

I have fillers once a year, sometimes in the jowls area and a tiny bit in my cheeks. Other times in the lines in my upper lip and the jowls. My lips were incredible thin, I hardly had a top lip before and now they just look like normal lips. Then every other year a bit in my top lip and one of the other three places I mentioned. I’m pleased with the filler and I’d say it lasts about 10 months. My dermatologist only uses a very small amount . He also does my Botox twice a year in the 11’s area, although not every time, lines at side of my eyes and forehead. I’ve had Botox since my 50th birthday and filler since I was 48. It’s really subtle as in my DH didn’t know I had it done until I needed a lift to the clinic one day snd had to fess up!
I wish I’d started a bit younger. Before I started to have the fillers I’d started to look a bit sad and knackered but I look a lot less so now.

foodtoorder · 22/04/2021 21:39

Thanks all.
The consultations I have had have all suggested 1ml of filler in the cheek areas which I am aware is not lots. I did not think to ask what product they would use so will email to ask that question.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had it in their cheeks and it's improved smile lines?

OP posts:
SwimBaby · 22/04/2021 21:45

Do you mean smile lines around your eyes?

foodtoorder · 22/04/2021 23:10

No nasolabial lines. Is it right that cheek filler will lift these? It sort of makes sense that they would.

OP posts:
RonaldMcDonald · 23/04/2021 02:45

Yes sorting out your mid face is where to start
Voluma by Jeuvederm is a good filler for your mid face

LunaNorth · 23/04/2021 02:53

I love Botox. It takes years off me. I have a very subtle dose, but it really does the trick.

I’m pondering filler for the lines above my upper lip. I look like a smoker, and I’m not! I’m just wary of ending up looking like a Tweenie.

SwimBaby · 23/04/2021 09:26

Filler is great for lines above the upper lip. I had deep ‘smoker’ lines despite never smoking (all my family seem to get them), now they are probably half as deep.

FillingitAllin · 23/04/2021 11:11

@foodtoorder I've name changed for this.
I have had fillers 4 times in my cheeks. Each time I was very happy.
I did go to a very good place in London which has won awards and is possibly one of the best. Yes, it's pricey (£350 per 1ml) but I didn't want a bodged job.
I had 1ml filler each side of upper cheeks. I also had under eye tear trough fillers once. (not at the same time.)

What do you mean by smile lines?
Do you mean wrinkles down the side of your cheeks? Or the side of your mouth?

Mine were placed high on my cheeks and lifted what had become a flat area, so it made me look as if I had cheek bones. It also helped lift the slight jowly area on my jaw.
The first time I did get a lot of heat and redness on the area for a few days - this can be normal. Further treatments weren't as bad.
I found they lasted about 15 months and I waited until it had all dissolved, so it was about 2 years between each lot of fillers.
The tear trough fillers lasted only 6 months.

Have a look at the before and after photos on the website of Dr Tracy Mountford.

FillingitAllin · 23/04/2021 11:15

You need to make sure that the fillers they use are dissolvable and not the permanent type.

A good cosmetic dr will choose the right product on the day depending what you have done. There is quite an art to fillers- they need to be done deeply (so it can hurt a bit- being honest) and then they massage the filler into the right place to get the right 'look'.

foodtoorder · 23/04/2021 13:25

@FillingitAllin thanks for your insight.
By smile lines I mean nasolabial fold. I've always had a defined one but they do seem to be going further south!
I can see that cheek filler will lift this but obviously just anxious not to look unnatural.

OP posts:
SwimBaby · 23/04/2021 13:34

As long as you don’t have it too often it will look good. My dermatologist is very strict on when his clients can get things done, he’d rather lose the business than do work that isn’t needed.

ApplyWithin · 23/04/2021 13:47

I haven’t had fillers.

I’ve had botox on number 11s and crows feet. It’s completely painless. I have had small bruises with crows feet - no bigger than a pencil dot really but I do get it most times, it fades quickly. Hardly any redness. Takes me 30 mins to drive home and it’s gone by then.

I love the effect - the eye area especially. My doctor won’t do my forehead because I have hooded eyelids and she’s worried about drooping. I’d like to have the forehead though.

I would never have fillers because I think it’s very noticeable and unnatural. Botox done well is very subtle.

I gave it a lot of thought, did my research, found an experienced, respected, proper dermatologist and have been really happy with the choice.

It felt like a huge step but now I’ve done it and seen how quick and easy it is, I’m sure everyone’s at it!

@foodtoorder The best advice I can give you is go to someone who is very good.
I asked mine what needed doing. A good cosmetic dr can look at your face and 'see' what needs adjusting with the treatment.

I was given a mirror and asked what I didn't like about my face and what I hoped to achieve. I pulled my cheeks up and was told it was cheek fillers needed.

With the lines you want to get rid of you might need filler on your upper cheeks just under the eyes as well as filler in the actual grooves from nose to chin/mouth.

Take a look at the website of Dr Tracy Mountford- before and after photos as well as videos of women having the work done.(The Cosmetic Skin Clinic)

Anyone good will not overfill. I chose someone whose philosophy is to under- treat rather than over treat. Can't stress the importance enough of going with a real expert, not just a beautician.

FillingitAllin · 23/04/2021 15:10

@ApplyWithin Fillers done well are not obvious. No one knew I'd had anything done. I only told my H and not even my adult DCs could tell. The issue is that far too many women have work done by people who are underqualified or inexperienced OR they ask for more than is necessary.

Unreasonabubble · 23/04/2021 15:25

If you are having Botox, this needs to be prescribed by either a prescribing nurse, dentist, GP or pharmacist. They MUST have a one-to-one consultation with you in person, not remotely as that is illegal. They can then write out a prescription with your name on it to be filled at the pharmacy. The beautician can then inject you.

If you are going to a beautician BE VERY AWARE that they are performing illegal Botox injections if the above has not been followed. I don't care if they produce beautiful results, the fact that they have injected you with illegal products (probably from Korea) means that if something goes wrong, their insurance won't cover them or you so you could not sue if you wanted to because you should have done your homework to make sure they were a Prescriber. Ignorance of the law is no excuse and it will be your own fault.

Also fillers, do not go to someone who is also not a prescriber as yes the beautician can inject you but if it goes wrong and you want the filler dissolved, the dissolver is a prescription only medicine.

So many people are unaware of the law when it comes to Prescription Only Medicines. Another thing, if you go to a beautician who says "I can perform Botox now" they again are acting illegally as they are NOT allowed to keep stocks of Botox and may only inject you with the only that has been prescribed to you.

Too many back street Beauticians/Aesthetics Clinicians (probably those who claim to be medical professionals because they have done a 2 day phlebotomy course) are happy to do it all illegally as they will take their chances as they are making so much money from their clients.

Check the person you are going to see if either registered with CQC or SaveFace.

foodtoorder · 23/04/2021 15:27

@Unreasonabubble thanks already found reputable clinician.

Of course, seems a no brainer to me.
Surely no one would actually ask for a frozen look?
I've always assumed that immobile faces, or frozen bits of faces, were due to lack of skill on the part of the botoxer and not a deliberate choice.
