Help! My face is so sore and red..

Hello!

So over the last 2/3 months I've noticed my face has been really hot and red.. my skin feels very irritated and sore.

I'm trying to think if I've used anything new but i really don't think I have!
I usually have a very clear and even complexion, but I'm getting very self conscious of my face at the moment and can't stand to look at myself without makeup on.. I'm 23 years old 😔

Does anybody have any products you recommend? Or brands I can look into?

I’m wondering if you’ve developed rosacea?

Of course, there could be many other causes, perhaps see your GP for a dermatology referral?

If it is roseacea though, I have had it on and off for years and always found Dermalogica the kindest products.
Another friend swears by La Roche.

GP probably ought to be your first call though. As it’s a new condition it may be something that needs a prescribed medication.

@DenisetheMenace I wondered the same. Really not sure what it could be, but it's really embarrassing and slowly but surely effecting my confidence, too..
I will see if I can get into the doctors surgery. Thank you!

It's funny you wrote this as it's so similar to how I'm feeling atm.
I've always had irritated skin but the last few weeks the flushing and hotness is unbearable and it's so dry and sore.
I've stopped using anything perfumed or with essential oils and am just using the ceraVe range. It's helped but it hasn't helped with the hotness.. which I think is to do with tight dry skin perhaps.
If anyone has any tips for facial flushing I would be grateful too!

@aweirdtopic ahh it's crazy isn't it!

At first I put it down to masks but it's not just around my jawline, it's everywhere..

I wasn't able to put my usual full face of makeup on today for work as I was running late, so I just popped some mascara on and I was asked on 4 separate occasions if I had a good weekend, as it looked like I'd got sunburnt!!!

🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes, please do. There are so much better treatments now than there were just a few years ago. That’s if it is roseacea of course. Could be one of many things, allergy, environmental, stress.
In the meantime, try not to worry too much and for goodness’ sake don’t google, you’ll scare yourself!
Until you do see your doctor, treat your face kindly and avoid harsh scrubs etc.

All the best
(and take it from a haggard 56 year old, at 23 you’re beautiful, red face and all 😊)

@DenisetheMenace thank you so much. I feel really silly worrying about this with all that's going on in the world. I've been so lucky thus far with my skin, maybe it's about time I have some problems 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️ I hope I can get some help with it. It's really flaring up at the moment and making me feel quite unwell at times, headaches etc.

Could it be a face mask thing? A new kind? Different washing powder or conditioner? My chin seems to be permanently red from mine Sad but was worse when I washed it with soap and probably didn't rinse it properly.

I’d wonder about rosacea too, given what you’ve said. Mine started with a sensitivity to my usual products- I just started getting a burning sensation after moisturizer, it was actually a bit painful. And I had the feeling of heat and obvious flushing.

If that’s what it is, I’ve found cetaphil to be a good range, tho tbh you will see loads of different things recommended. I tried lots of ranges, including some that were only available through a dermatology clinic, and tbh I never found them better than high street ones.

Speak to your gp, if you then get a diagnosis of rosacea, ask about soolantra cream, it made a huge difference to me. And I now get laser every 3 months, though that is pricey.
