Hush sweatshirt lovely and Shein Dress

two things - so I've always been suspicious of Hush - overpriced, too trendy but ordered some bit including a Hush 3/4 length blue sweatshirt from John Lewis and it's lovely! gorgeous blue colour.

Another thing - saw a lovely dress on local instagram - boutique owned by a 'celeb stylist' - bought it and tried it on (they only do credit notes) checked label and it's by Shein and sold on their site really cheaply and marked up a lot in the boutique, am I narked to feel slightly pissed off at the mark up or would you be ok with this?

Not sure what your question is, surely that’s how business works, you buy from a supplier who sells something to you and add your own profit margin on and resell it... I get that you might query the profit if it’s a big mark up but they haven’t tried to dupe you by removing the labels and pretending it’s a hand made item or anything. They’ve imported presumably a larger order of stock from shein, pay for their premises and business costs / advertising / time and for that you have the added benefit of being able to try it on and decide if you like it and return for a different size if needed etc.

Also, if you really like the dress would you have even seen it if it hadn’t been for the stylist promoting it? You wouldn’t have ever seen it to buy it off shein. Sometime is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it, and you paid the stylist for it. If it irks you then maybe next time you see something she has that you like you could go and trawl through all the listing on shein till you find it and wait three months for it to arrive.

it's not overly bothering me - she's a good stylist and has a good eye, it's just Shein being Chinese etc - I should've researched etc so totally down to me!

Dropshipping. Resellers make money while under paid workers in China make the garments for peanuts

Yeah, most Instagram "boutiques" are like this. Crap bought from AliExpress or Wish, and sold on at a huge markup. They could argue you're paying for them to find the item for you though.

Might be worth looking into the law for online returns - I know that online shops have to give at least 14 days for you to decide whether you want to keep an item or not (after you receive it), but I'm not sure whether an instagram seller counts as a "shop" if you get me.

They should have taken the label out of the item and you'd be none the wiser :)

Just to add, last week I randomly found bags on Wish that are being sold with added personalisation here in the UK for 500% of the Wish price. I saw loads of influencers being gifted these bags last year and promoting the brand. Just glad I didn't order one!

see - this person who owns the boutique - she does have her own label - no idea where this gets made.

I feel a bit bad and conflicted because it's a pandemic - she's trying to make money...

Dropshipping I don't agree with. if it is this

I was told I could get a credit note if not happy
