Self tanning for Dummies

Ok, not for dummies but for those who have no idea where to start...

I have very pale skin which does not tan naturally (at all!) and want to add a bit of colour to my legs, arms and chest.

What's the best stuff to use? How do you do it without it going all blotchy, getting it all over your sheets and blending it in with your non tanned bits?

Can anyone share some wisdom please?

Maybe start with a gradual tanner. They don't come off on clothes or bedding as much as a self tanner.

If you go for a self tan use a tanning mit and just take it slowly with upward strokes from your feet up making sure you don't miss any bits. Moisturise your feet and knees and elbows prior to application and wash your palms well afterwards (I have orange palms today because I was careless) apply in the morning, wear loose dark clothes and shower before bed.

I like skinny tan oil spray but most self tanners these days are pretty good. I used a L'Oréal gradual tan last night and it looks pretty good this morning - other than my palms 😂

I'd go for tanning drops. I use the tan luxe ones (they do separate face and body ones) Add a couple of drops to your normal moisturiser and ta-da! No streaks and easy to achieve the shade you're after without going orange. They aren't cheap but as you're only using a few (2-3) drops per blob of moisturiser they last a while. Make sure you wash your hands after applying these too!

I'm very pale and used to use isle of paradise drops, which are good if you want a gradual tanner. I've since tried bondi sands foam in light/medium and it's excellent - no streaks, and easier than adding drops to moisturiser. It gives a natural glow rather than a full on orange tan, but is buildable if you want to go a bit darker. It does wash off within a few days, but that's good if you don't want to commit! You just apply it with a mitt then wash off and hour or so later. Exfoliating before hand helps (but don't moisturise)
