Hair removing spring thing?

SusannaMorvern · 19/04/2021 20:51

So... as if my black whiskery chin hairs weren't bad enough, I've now started sprouting longer fine, white hairs.
I have been looking at those spring things to remove hairs. There seems to be quite a variety on eBay...Any words of wisdom? Do they work? Are they easy to use?

They are more painful than childbirth!

idontlikealdi · 19/04/2021 21:14

Go and get dermaplaned. Or shave. Anything you buy on eBay will be either shit and / or painful.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 19/04/2021 21:18

I use one on my upper lip. It works, just takes a couple of goes to get the knack. It does hurt, but not much imo. Anything that plucks hair out is going to hurt.

CatsRule · 19/04/2021 21:19

I have one and I find it breaks the hair rather than pulling it out at the root so the pain is for nothing unless I'm using it wrong which I don't think I am.

I do agree it's more painful than childbirth, but at least it isn't as painful as manflu Grin

picklemewalnuts · 19/04/2021 21:26

Agony. And leaves me inflamed and spotty.

I've been cultivating mine over lockdown. They are now long and soft. Sadly, the family disagreed with my intention to keep them indefinitely and I've had to scissor them off.

Scissors seem better than shaving or plucking to me. The hair seems less visible.

Orchidflower1 · 19/04/2021 21:31

I think they work but you must use it on clean, dry skin and then tone to close the open hair follicle after. I can spots if I don’t.

It is not that painful- I can’t stand waxing any part of me and I use it. I have weird, strong and sometime curly hair in my chin🤢

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 20/04/2021 14:13

I must be lucky with mine then, it pulls the hair out from the root and I don't get any spots. I wash my face beforehand but no other special preparation. I've had it years, think it was 99p from ebay.

TableNiner · 20/04/2021 14:20

They do work but can make your eyes since. I prefer using the Flawless touch thing but obviously that isn’t taking the hairs out at the root.

TableNiner · 20/04/2021 14:21

Since = wince

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 20/04/2021 14:31

Works really well. Chin takes me a few seconds to go over. Much less painful than the upper lip!

cujo · 20/04/2021 16:15

I have got a tweezy. It does an okay job and obviously isn’t comfortable to use (as it just pulls the hairs out) but isn’t horrific
I don’t get spots or anything, just whisk over when I notice/remember

For a tenner I would say worth a try?

Gazelda · 20/04/2021 16:19

I use mine almost daily. A couple of seconds each day (with minimal pain) does the job, topped up by a weekly session with the tweezers for more persistent offenders

I find it hurts more on lip hair.

HildegardeCrowe · 20/04/2021 16:23

Are these different to epilators? My chin is now no laughing matter and the tweezers just don’t cut it.

IReallyNeedMoreGin · 20/04/2021 16:29

I have one and use it a lot. I use it straight out of the bath or shower. It stings a bit but it's better than waxing! I had a few spots the first time I used it but not since. Worth a try I think especially as you can get them for a couple of £ on eBay or Amazon.

Cherrypi · 20/04/2021 16:40

They sell them in Primark for a couple of quid too.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 20/04/2021 16:58

They're basically a manual epilator. No good for large areas - legs would take about a year.
Lookingoutside · 20/04/2021 17:39

Go and have a consultation for the Soprano ice laser. Google will know where the nearest place to you is. The reviews are good!

I’m having mine next week. Fortnightly waxing was so expensive and shaving through lockdown was utterly miserable.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/04/2021 18:25

I've got one that I use on my tache and chin areas.

It works fine...bit painful in some areas (just above cupid's bow) but no worse than waxing (it's the same theory) and a LOT less messy. Very quick to use and not spots/redness/other after effects.

It was a couple of quid from Avon.

I've never given birth, but I've heard the stories and this is hilarious. They hardly hurt once you've got used to them. It's like plucking your eyebrows.
Pinktruffle · 23/04/2021 17:49

@Lookingoutside laser is very unlikely to work on white/grey hair. The hair needs pigment for the laser to travel down and kill the follicle. It works best on dark hair and light skin combo but will work on darker skin as long as hair is dark.

Justcashnosweets · 23/04/2021 18:18

I've tried everything to keep my chin hairs at bay, and the easiest way is just to shave them off every other day. Takes seconds. Its cheap and painless.

Redcrayons · 23/04/2021 18:26

Works a treat, takes 5 minutes every couple of days. Wish I’d come across them when I was a teenager.

Same level of pain as having your eyebrows threaded.

Lookingoutside · 23/04/2021 23:34

@Pinktruffle Apparently this new one (soprano ice laser) works on all combinations of skin and hair types. I’m going to give it a try on my face and see how it goes.
