How often do you wash your make up brushes and what do you use?

Not sure if I should be using a specialist cleaning solution or not. I just use anti bacterial soap or anti bacterial washing up liquid and a scrub daddy. I do this once a week minimum or as needed. I do rinse my beauty sponge out daily

I use a baby shampoo and as I don't wear make up daily , so it about once a month.

ReginaaPhalange · 19/04/2021 13:53

I bet the baby shampoo is more gentle on the bristles! Might get some! :)

Also when you are washing your brushes , just stroke them in a downwards motion so you keep them in shape and not damaging them.

I use sulphate free shampoo and an Elf silicone make up remover gadget which is quite good.

BusterGonad · 19/04/2021 14:29

Once every few months but I don't wear make up everyday and when I do I usually wet wipe the foundation brush etc or use a spray of antibacterial stuff. I use baby shampoo and I also use conditioner after! I try to keep them nice as they are quite expensive really.

mommybunny · 19/04/2021 15:24

I try to wash my foundation brush every time I use it but other brushes are after every couple of uses, depending on whether I’m using the same product (don’t want to mix up colours).

I use baby shampoo and a brilliant hack for one of those friction trays that cost well above a tenner at Boots and Superdrug: a Lego flat platform about 7.5cm by 12cm, which I confiscated from one of DS’s Lego sets (don’t worry, he never even noticed it was gone!).

I wash my eye shadow brush weekly and any foundation/face brushes after every 2 uses. I use dr bonners castille soap and it does a good job!

thatsgotit · 20/04/2021 08:06

I use Real Techniques brush cleaning gel, it cleans way more efficiently than soap imo and rinses out more easily.

Any old shampoo

crossstitchingnana · 20/04/2021 11:02

Whoops! Had mine 30 years. Never washed them. Never occurred to me. Feeling 🤢now.

BusterGonad · 20/04/2021 11:24

Crossstitch I think you had better use something stronger! 😂

CleverCatty · 20/04/2021 11:31

baby or any spare shampoo.

Alsohuman · 20/04/2021 11:47

Once a week with washing up liquid. Mine are all synthetic and don’t need much pampering.

icelollycraving · 20/04/2021 11:51

I use Nanshy brush cleanser, one of the best I’ve used. Been a makeup artist for years (don’t do it privately these days but very particular about cleaning them!)

Fispi · 20/04/2021 13:46

Any shampoo. I rub them on a flannel and it works well. I do it when I remember maybe every 2-4 weeks. I use my fingers fir foundation so it's all powder products. I put my sponge in the washing machine every few uses.

Rosesarere · 20/04/2021 13:52

I have the pro style brush cleaner, it cleans and dries a brush in about a minute, I love it and clean my brushes much more frequently now

ElderMillennial · 20/04/2021 13:56

I often use baby shampoo but at the moment I'm using a bar soap. Can't remember what it's called but I find it's really good for removing concealer that would otherwise not always come out with foundation.

Tbh most shampoos or soaps are fine.

I wash my brushes about once a week but I only use them about 3 times in that time.

ElderMillennial · 20/04/2021 13:57

If I use them more than that and don't want to do a full wash I use some alcohol spray or brush cleaner on a cloth in between.

QueenPaw · 20/04/2021 13:59

I use a micro fibre cloth/towel between washes to buff any colour out
For washing dr bronner liquid soap or a specific makeup brush soap (fragrance free) as my brushes were eye watering money and I'm so careful with them!

Hansper · 20/04/2021 18:04

Cheap micellar water in an egg cup

icelollycraving · 20/04/2021 18:15

Synthetic brushes come up good with fairy liquid, ensure rinsed well if you need a cheap option.
