Shoes for very narrow feet

Hi there, sorry if this thread has been done before, I'm just looking for suggestions for shoes for very narrow feet. Usually my feet slip around in my shoes and I have to wear 2 pairs of socks and insoles to combat this. This solution is not going to be ideal in the summer. I have tried wearing a size down but this just squashes my toes and 1/2 sizes are not readily available in most shops. Any suggestions on which shoe brands are good for very narrow feet? Preferably ones that come up narrow in bigger sizes as well. TIA.

What type of shoe are you looking for? I have the Under Armour Aurora training shoe and it is very narrow but otherwise true to size. I also find Skechers trainers are narrow enough for my feet but only the ones with proper laces, not the type with elastic laces as you can't get them tight enough. Also their Memory Foam soles are delightfully comfy. If you're looking for a more formal shoe then Gabor Mary Jane style shoes are good for narrow feet, have excellent arch support, and come in half sizes. I have to go half a size down in Gabor.

For summer you could try the Saltwater Sandals that you wear wet at first so they shape themselves to your feet.

Thanks for the responses, StuntNun I'm looking for something that goes above the ankle as my ankles are hypermobile and they tend to roll over more if I wear shoes that stop below below the ankle. Plus they're less likely to slip off. Which is always a bonus.

If you know what size you are in Clarks shoes, it’s possible to
get narrow fitting shoes from Amazon.com. If you buy end of range, this can be a good bargain even taking duty and postage into account. American Amazon also stocks narrow fitting shoes from other makers, eg Rod Hommerton and Naturalizer.

In the Uk, specialist shops
are Specialfeetures in Hampshire and James Inglis inScotland.
Hope this helps.

goodsapphic · 18/04/2021 18:28

Teaandscone thank you, I shall have a look at Amazon. The UK specialists seem to be a bit of a drive from where I live but if I ever visit Hampshire or Scotland, I'll be sure to visit them.

I think LK Bennett are narrow, I can't even get my toes into them

SingleHandSue · 18/04/2021 18:29

Hotter have started doing narrow widths in some of their styles. You’ll probably find them supportive too.

TableNiner · 18/04/2021 20:43

There’s James Inglis but I’ve always found the styles a bit old for me.

I think Moda in Pelle is on the narrow side, also Aldo if they are still going. I’ve also had luck in Office.

I like a shoe with an adjustable strap as I can create more holes if necessary, or laces. Or elasticated ballet pumps.

I actually find sandals easier as I can size down without my toes being squashed, just as long as they don’t hang over the end.

Watching this with interest as I’ve had the same problem all my life.... the vast majority of narrow-fitting shoes seem to be designed for the over 80s as far as I can tell!

I recently bought a pair of canvas trainers from Superdry. I was amazed when I put them on and they fit my narrow feet! Normally trainers are really wide on me. Would definitely recommend!

goodsapphic · 19/04/2021 07:14

OhTheTastyNuts thanks for the suggestion, I've never bought shoes from Superdry before but their bags and jackets seem to be of very good quality. I'll have a look at them.

I have the same issue and find Clark's standard a good fit
They do trainers and I particularly like their trigenic range
Good luck

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/04/2021 12:24

Don't size down. I learnt the hard way!
If necessary you can use an insole and heel grip instead I have one size difference and always buy for the bigger foot

Planttrees · 19/04/2021 12:27

Clarks have gone wider in recent years. I talked to someone just before lockdown last year and they said they mainly get Es and very few Ds. My feet are Cs so they are no good for me, nor are any other high street chains so I have to look for expensive French or Italian shoes as they are generally narrower fitting. Insoles and heel grips are a poor substitute for correctly fitting shoes.

JinglingHellsBells · 19/04/2021 13:02

James Inglis as linked to but are ££££.

Boden shoes often come up narrow if you read the reviews where everyone says they are too narrow!

JaceLancs · 19/04/2021 13:11

Aldo and dune tend to be quite narrow
I look for Italian or Brazilian brands in tkmaxx
Clarks and M n S are far too wide for me
Peter Kaiser also good and a few polish brands that I can’t think of names at moment
I really struggle to get narrow enough - I’m ok in winter as wear boots and thick socks

SirVixofVixHall · 19/04/2021 13:16

Americans have the narrowest feet in the world, so US brands will be narrower, they seem to stock extra narrow widths more often too.
I have the opposite problem, my whole family have stupidly wide feet with a high instep.

goodsapphic · 19/04/2021 15:42

I agree with all the posters saying about Clarks shoes being too wide. I had my feet measured there not too long ago and the size they suggested slipped right off!

uncomfortablydumb53 thanks for the suggestion of a heel grip, I already wear insoles but they're only 3/4 lengths and orthopaedic ones, don't seem to be very helpful narrowing the shoe. Not sure if regular insoles will work with them but I'll try it out. I also have the same problem of having one foot smaller, although not to the same extent as you. I have known people to have feet 2 sizes bigger than the other, that must be a really big pain.

From my experience as an AA width in US sizing, well forefoot's slightly wider than AA, heel may be closer to AAA.

I'm in the US so please take what's applicable locally to you.

I for the most part do not attempt to set foot in physical shoe stores unless it's known to carry narrow widths.

If you're willing to splurge Stuart Weitzman is available in multiple widths in the US.

check online at shoe store websites they often have filters for width. I frequently check dsw, zappos, shoemall and shoes.com. if there's a physical shoe store around you changes are they offer extended sizes and widths online. I recommend to order a bunch in narrow and x-narrow in sizes that you think might be right for you, try them all and return the ones that don't fit.

narrow shoes that I own:

Stuart Weitzman: all my boots are from there. I have slim legs as well as narrow feet and their narrow widths fit perfectly. as long as I stay away from patent leather they're super comfy
Clarks: I have one pair of ballet flats with a patent leather cap toe and they pinch my toes here and now but I love the look way too much. also had to tape the inside of the heel to keep it from scratching my foot. may be worth a try in other styles
Vaneli: ankles are wider than stuart weitzmans but overall pretty comfy and cute. offers shoes in the A4 width if your feet are narrower than A2.
new balance: I work out in their sneakers. they occasionally have boots in narrow width
brooks: I have a solid pair of sneakers from them
sketchers: runs slightly wide for me but their sneakers still work for me better than any medium. my only source of pink sneakers so far.
easy spirit: all of their hiking shoes that I got are solid and true to size
Ferragamo: not boots and not over the ankle but I love collecting them and am obsessed with getting the vara pump in every color. thus far they're true to my brannock device measured size

others may be worth mentioning:

Munro
san antonio shoemakers. have tried on some of their sneakers and sandals they're solid.
superlamb

I would say check the websites of major retailers and see if they got anything
