Has anyone seen any nice A-line skirts recently and what do we think about mini skirts?

A-line is the most flattering for me, but I can't seem to find any.... Ideally would like something wintery, in wool, and not solid black, but a colour or pattern that goes with black.

A skirt I saw that I really like is this one. Would wear it with boots and thick tights, but am a bit concerned that it is so short.... Is it ok for the over 30s?

Your help and views would be greatly appreciated!

I have been wearing skirts waaaay shorter than that and i'm over 30 and not the local tart. If you wear them with thick tights it's no different to leggings or skinny jeans imo.Haven't seen many a-line ones tho. Have you tried Boden?

JackieNo · 12/11/2007 15:18

Boden?

JackieNo · 12/11/2007 15:18

(snap, numptysmummy)

Great Plains always has A line skirtas, I have about 6 of them! You can order on line too www.greatplains.co.uk/productList.aspx?CategoryID=skirtsshorts
Also try Monsoon - always loads of lovely skirts and White Stuff, also both on line.

JackieNo · 12/11/2007 15:19

Also White Stuff.

Pannacotta · 12/11/2007 15:21

SNap again JN

hobbs one nice. i am in minis and am 38, not muttony with solid tights and non skimpy top. i've got this absolute bargain and i know its petite but i'm 5'5" with fairly long legs and doesn't show my pants.

MrsBadger · 12/11/2007 18:01

Kew too

I will be wearing smallish skirts this winter (legs unaffected by postnatal size change madness)

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2007 10:24

Thanks!
It was a bit rude of me not thanking you yesterday for all the comments but I had to leave in a hurry.

Pannacotta: are you happy with the quality of Great Plains? I've been a bit disappointed in the past.... With tops mainly, though.

I really like White Stuff, but the colours are totally wrong for me, unfortunately.

When you say smallish, MrsB, do you mean above the knee?
Will try Kew, thanks.

Maybe Boden is the way to go... What are their sizes like? Is a 10 a 10?

I bought a gorgeous grey wool skirt in Gap. It is slightly A-line and above the knee with (I think) 3 pairs of buttons on the front (like you see on sailor-style trews).

I will wear it with a white shirt, opaque black tights and high-heeled mary janes (or long black boots). I don't think I can get a link, but it's a really nice shape, and not at all mini-skirtish in a Liz MacDonald fashion.

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2007 11:01

Did you buy it this season Grumpy?

will be watching with interest

love a line cant do short (fat knees)

Enid · 13/11/2007 11:02

white stuff too casual

I have a lovely one from agnes b but it is about 12 years old and I have to wear it with the waistband pulled right up or it doesnt fit

TheChickenLady · 13/11/2007 11:37

Thick tights, no cleavage and nice boots, and mini-skirts are definitely ok in your 30s.

Have you tried Whistles?

oliveoil · 13/11/2007 11:41

Gap

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:41

Mini skirts on over 30s fine! but absolutely no boobage on show at the same time, otherwise it looks like Bet Lynch is your style icon!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/11/2007 11:49

I did buy my skirt this season (about 3 weeks ago)

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/11/2007 11:51

Enid, I hate my knees, but I think the slight a line shape detracts from drawing attention to them, despite the hemline exposing them. I patently would not wear one of those pencilly type mini skirts. All you notice then is the pudge.

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2007 12:05

LOL, I couldn't show boobage if I tried!

I agree that White Stuff is too casual. I'm starting a serious job in January and would ideally like something appropriate for that.

Will definitely have a look in Gap!

Huzzah! this is my skirt.

Funnily enough, it doesn't look anywhere near that short on me. Mine is just above the knee, an inch or two.

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2007 12:13

hmmm that looks really short! How tall are you Grumpy? Or maybe you wear it quite low on the waist? Or maybe that model is very leggy!...

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2007 14:19

My Gap doesn't have that skirt unfortunately. Had some nice skinny cords which I'm really tempted with though.

Also popped in to Kew and there were so many things I liked... I could have easily spent hundreds of punds there (doesn't happen often)! Unfortunately can't spend hundreds, so will have to decide what to buy with the £50 I can spend!

Really nice A-line skirts, by the way.
