I'm not a make up wearer, so I've never bothered with cleansing products as such...my skincare "routine" is next to nothing and I just use cleansing wipes and a moisturiser with an spf 20.

If you were me, what would you start doing (I realise I should've started years ago!) I have pretty normal skin, but I keep reading about retinol products, serums and night cream etc and clearly should be doing more to fight off the wrinkles. The biggest thing I've noticed in terms of aging is lines around my mouth and slightly saggy jowls...

Anyone got any suggestions for a good skincare routine/beauty treatments I should look at?

I am your age and use the Samantha Sona range for Dry & Mature skin. This is my routine:

Morning:

  • Pink clay cleansing bar
  • Kakadu plum day serum
  • Davidson Plum moisturiser.

Evening:

  • Pink clay cleansing bar
  • Lilly Pilly night serum
  • Snowflower night cream.

My skin has honestly never looked so good. I like the fact that the range isn’t oily and the products are natural.

Doesn't look like they stock it in the UK unfortunately

@chipansippy, they ship to the UK. It usually arrives within a few days.

Wipes do nothing, you still need to cleanse, I don't usually wear make up but I do cleanse properly. I think the m&s rose balm is lovely or the Ren Gel is a nice light one.

I would also wear a proper Spf not one added to moisturiser, it's hard to use enough to make it effective. Also if you use Retinol you need a high factor sunscreen.

An acid exfoliate (the modern version of grainy ones) will brighten your skin. Paula's Choice BHA or pixi tonic are both good starters.

The first thing I would say OP is that skincare can be a minefield, so it depends on how much time/ effort you want to put into it. People will list of reams of products that they use, many of which will not suit you, or you won't be interested in. Some people see it as a hobby, and love it, some don't.

It's difficult to give advice on specific products, as it depends on your skin type, formulation preferences and budget.
Also, no cream will reverse saggy jowls, so it's important to be realistic about what skincare can do. Even prescription strength retinol will only do so much.

That being said, a good skincare routine can make skin appear brighter, clearer and can help reduce the signs of fine lines etc.

For a basic skincare routine maybe something like this:

Morning:
Gentle cleanser
Vitamin C Serum - will help brighten your skin
Moisturiser
SPF - use 30+, and make sure to use enough to properly cover your face/ neck/ hands.

Evening:
Gentle cleanser
Serum (optional, there are lots out there)
Retinol product (start very slow, maybe once a week at first)
Once a week, substitute the retinol with an acid exfoliant.

If you are introducing 'actives' like vitamin c, retinol, acid exfoliants, be sure to go slowly and introduce one at a time and give your skin a chance to adapt to them.

Hope that's helpful. If you want further reading there is an excellent long running skincare thread on there with some good links in the OP.

Well I’m 52 and use miceller wipes every night.
Don’t spend a fortune is my advice. My skin has never looked so good as it does now. Here is my routine - all relatively cheap.

Morning
Simple moisturising face wash
Cerave moisturising cream
Cerave eye cream
The Ordinary Rosehip oil

Night time
Micellar face wipe (Simple or Nivea)
Sukin Rosehip night cream
Cerave eye cream
The ordinary Rosehip oil.

I get all my products from look fantastic website.

MissyB1 · 18/04/2021 12:03

If you buy one thing make it Rosehip oil - I can’t recommend it enough!

Wipes are terrible for the skin. And the environment.

Samantha Sona products are lovely. And they offer free shipping to the UK. I have been using this code: FREEPOSTUK.

I can highly recommend their tanning lotion and serums especially.
