Growing my hair long, what treatments and supplements/food help?

For the first time in decades I’ve managed to grow my hair slightly longer, in the past I’ve never been able to grow it any further than chin length without it becoming lank and dry.

If you have long hair in what do you do to keep it looking well, I’ve improved my diet recently because of skin issues but I was wondering if there were any good supplements and treatments that would help my hair. I’m late 40’s...

I'm 52 and am growing my hair for the first time too. My hair is very fine and used to be greasy, but since the menopause has dried out a bit, thankfully! The thing that's made the biggest difference to it is this: avon.uk.com/products/absolute-nourishment-argan-hair-serum-30ml

I wash it every 2 - 3 days and when it's been washed, rub a couple of drops in my hands to warm it up and just run through the ends of my hair. The difference is gobsmacking! I'm also using Plantar 39 shampoo which makes it really shiny, alternating with that and Watermans hair growth shampoo - I have no idea if it makes it grow faster, but I like that I'm trying it Grin

I really like the Lee Stafford treatment for hair that won't grow past a certain length. It's in a pink tub. You put it on between shampoo and conditioner.

I don't think it contains any magical ingredients but probably just treats your hair so well that it doesn't break. I noticed a difference.

I take a multivitamin with iron at night before bed because it needs an empty stomach with no recent tea or coffee intake.

A good diet is the main thing though, plenty of anti inflammatory foods like tinned oily fish, nuts, frozen blueberries are cheap & lots of veg. Cheap veg like spring greens and carrots are nutrient rich.

Another vote for the Lee Stafford hair growth. I use the leave in conditioning spray after I wash my hair and it seems to help keep it smooth as well.

I use Viviscal. They are vitamin supplements. It is expensive and I honestly thought it wasn't going to work, but it does for me and my mum in her 70s who lost a lot of hair do to a thryroid problem. Lots of new hairs around the hairline etc. Takes a few months to see a difference though.

I take biotin supplements, put olaplex on overnight once a week, and use kerastase serum after every wash.

It's finally lower than my nipples for the first time ever.

Olaplex once a week and a salon quality shampoo and conditioner that isn't full of sulphates and silicones.

I also didn't use heat for a year and now I only use my dyson airwrap to style - so less heat.

I have two rows of hair extensions.
Immediate effect!

Have a look at Jasmineraehairco on Instagram. I believe she's a hairdresser in the US and her "highlights" on Instagram contain a lot of information on growing your hair (hers is ridiculously long, let me know if you don't have Instagram or know what highlights are on there).

I've been using her advice for a few weeks and have already noticed a difference and she doesn't try and sell you a product every 10 minutes. She also recommends products that she has zero affiliation to but the vast majority of her tips/advice isn't products to use, but rather techniques etc so all free.
