how can I improve my skin ?

I'm 57 and I've noticed over the last year my skin is looking shite. I drink plenty of water and eat good fats/nuts/seeds etc but the skin on my cheeks looks crepey, coarse and lined. I have an oily t panel so nose, forehead and chin is fine . My face isn't dry but just looks dull.

Not rolling in cash but am determined to improve things a bit. A very kind mumsnetter sent me a bottle of oil from Holland and Barratt as she didn't get on with it and whilst it feels nice and initially looks good it hasn't actually improved the texture of my skin
Can anyone with a similar skin suggest any products that they rate? Currently I use Garnier micellar water and blue pot nivea

Thanks

I don't believe in magical solutions, everyone's skin is different.

I would add a proper balm Cleanser, the m&s rose one is lovely.

For skin texture it would be good to use an exfoliate called an AHA or BHA - Paula's Choice is good or lots of people like Pixi Tonic.

A good one for brightening is Vitamin C serum which you can apply in the morning, I like La Roche Posay.

I'm the same age as you. I found the best way to improve my skin was to improve blood flow which I do by running 5k twice a week.

I end up flushed and sweaty but I think all the pores get a good flush through too. My skin is smoother, more plumped and softer.

Retinol from the ordinary, wear sunblock every day though.

Watch Nadine Baggott videos.

Ditch the micellar, or use it just to remove makeup then use a wash off/cream cleanser with a hot flannel.

Add a vit C serum in the morning

Add a retinol if you feel like it

SPF 50 every day.

The cleansing properly will make the biggest difference. NB gives recommendations at all price points. The Superdrug vit E cleanser is great and costs about a fiver.

If you want to add an acid toner as above (they've replaced the old gritty scrubs but essentially do the same without the sandpaper effect) then if your skin is dry/ageing you probably want a glycolic, (AHA)if it's oily/breakout then a salicylic (BHA) They work in different ways.
Nip&Fab do both, often on BOGOF and have exactly the same % of ingredients as the more expensive ones.

Liz Earle cleanse and polish
No7 exfoliator total renewal

A good serum and moisturiser Estée Lauder or Elemis superfood facial oil, Judith Williams creams are beautiful.

I use this www.boots.com/loreal-paris-revitalift-energising-red-day-cream-10259610

It gives me a bit of a subtle glow. It's not a full on tinted moisturiser. Since I started using this and the revitalift eye cream, I have noticed a difference in lines etc. I've got oily forehead, chin etc and dry cheeks. But this isn't too greasy on my skin and I can wear make up over it easily.

Personally, I think the Nivea products are far too greasy for my skin. I'm not a massive skin care regime type. I literally just starred using a day cream and eye cream after having kids ( and looking like shit).

Definitely double cleansing, oil based like the oat cleansing balm - Inkey List or Kiehls Cleansing Oil, then I use Cerave as second cleanse. I'm using P50 Biologique Recherche. Swear by Avene Hydrance Aqua Gel. Currently reduced in Boots and Look Fantastic. Can be used as moisturiser or night mask. Love this for under eyes. Plenty of water. Not a fan of micellar water or pixie glow tonic but that's just me.

Alpha H Liquid Gold has been the SINGLE best thing I've ever bought for my skin. My skin seems to adore glycolic acid, so I use Pixi Glow Tonic morning and evening, except Alpha H on alternate evenings. A couple of friends have actually commented on my skin, which is remarkable, as it was my biggest trouble area from my teenage years well into my twenties. (I'm now 32 and my problem area is now my hair... ) It might not be for you, but I'd start out with Pixi as it's cheap and easily available, and see how you get on.

Geamhradh · 16/04/2021 08:51

Aren't Alpha H and Pixi both the same 5% glycolic?
Disclaimer: I have a bottle of Pixi and that definitely is, I used Alpha H years ago when they only had one product (the 5% glycolic) so appreciate since then they've expanded the range!

Nope. It said that afaik Pixi glow tonic and liquid gold have the same % (5%) or at least when I used LG some years ago it did..although that was when the range only had one product.

Geamhradh · 16/04/2021 11:05

No idea what happened. I clicked "post" and immediately the naughty step message appeared. That usually happens if someone reports it but my original post never even posted.
Hey ho. Confused

Geamhradh · 16/04/2021 11:06

% of glycolic acid, that is.

Urine is, however, apparently amazing for the skin. Grin
