What do you think of this jacket?

I think I could love it but it's quite expensive. But it's reversible so like buying two? What do you think?

Also I'm 45, is it too young.

I love it OP, tempted to buy myself.

I only buy what's in fashion if I happen to like it and as it goes I really really hate blazers 😂 so I won't be in fashion at all this year.

PoTheDog · 15/04/2021 14:07

Blazers are so boring! Go for the bomber OP! It'll look great with jeans etc. And biker/denim jackets have been around for so long they are practically a uniform.

(I keep looking at it on the w&b website too, bit bomber jackets are completely the wrong shape for me unfortunately)

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 15/04/2021 14:16

This is what comes to mind immediately when pastel coloured blazers are mentioned 😁

What do you think of this jacket?

So does everyone think that fashion journalists who spend their whole lives reporting on fashion trends know absolutely nothing? It’s a bit like saying you wouldn’t go to a Dr because you know everything yourself. Who doesn’t like a bit of guidance and maybe suggestions you hadn’t thought of? Otherwise you might as well wear what you did when your mum bought your kit. It’s so boring not to look at trends and deliberate if they can work for you. How do you even know about brands if you never read anything about them? How would you know what efforts had been made to use sustainable fabrics and what firms are leading the way?

I find just saying - “ooohh it’s lovely” is so shallow and it’s just an echo chamber. I would like to chat with people who are a bit more savvy with trends on MN. Do they exist? I’m beginning to think not judging by all the love of Mulberry and past it brands. I’m 65 and I’m glad to say I’ve moved on. As I will from this thread.

Boood · 15/04/2021 14:38

I don’t know (or care) if I’d pass the “savvy with trends” test, but I’ve seen satin bomber jackets on everyone from twenty year olds to Mary Berry. And I like that one.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/04/2021 14:40

I take what fashion journalists write with a pinch of salt, unless they are reporting on a fashion show or on couture.

They often trot out the 'crisp white shirt' and 'well-cut black trousers' stuff good in theory but you'll look like a waiter.

I like reading fashion articles, but I will wear what I like, but i might wear it slightly differently. I stick to certain brands because I know that their cut will suit me. Some brands tend to not suit me. I'm shortish and they might be too long.I'm angular and they might suit a rounder or curvier frame.

Pastel blazers can look great. I'm not mad about the bomber jacket.

KeyboardWorriers · 15/04/2021 15:05

I think it is a bit of a stretch to compare fashion journalists to doctors Grin

Loving the irony of you considering others shallow for not following fashion Grin

Instagram is your friend @PresentingPercy, follow some of the older influencers on there. I'm sure they're not as shallow as us!

Such a weird thing to post on style and beauty. There are loads of opinions here which are all as valid as each other.
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 15/04/2021 16:00

That's the thing I actually love about the S&B forum, there's such a wide range of topics/tastes/budgets/advice for different body shapes. I like that the emphasis is on style rather than particular trends, with lots of people asking advice about what may suit them personally. You mentioned sustainable fabrics @PresentingPercy - I tend to think developing a personal style is far more sustainable and less wasteful than following trends. S&B tends to be a friendly and supportive corner and I like that it's inclusive. Glossy fashion magazines don't feel inclusive to me.

Snackz · 15/04/2021 16:18

Not really. It's nice for people to have their own styles without following trends Easter Grin

But bomber jackets ARE currently on trend @PresentingPercy They’re certainly featured in the Autumn 2021 fashion shows but are also around a lot currently. Cropped and leather bomber jackets appear to be especially en vogue.

I’m not convinced you’re as au fait with fashion as you may think.

FourTurnings · 15/04/2021 23:45

My DS works in a Senior role at ASOS and prior to that was a professional model for several years - he has a good sense of what’s fashionable 😉 he’s wearing a bomber jacket today and said they are selling fast.

westr · 15/04/2021 23:48

It's out of stock now

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 16/04/2021 00:08

I've been eyeing up that jacket myself OP & I really like it!
@PresentingPercy I find your posts very odd. Of course bomber jackets are in fashion now, that's why stylish sites such as Wolf & Badger are selling them!

Personally I loathe biker jackets & find them very jaded & dated & I can't imagine anything worse than wearing an oversize pastel blazer! So like all things fashion - each to their own!

OP I think you should go for it!

EllaPaella · 16/04/2021 14:58

Yes bombers are definitely a thing at the moment. I've seen loads of young'uns wearing them.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 16/04/2021 17:10

Please come back and show us your fabulous bomber @Tiggerishdish
