I often look at this board, and see these things mentioned time and time again, is this the secret MN uniform? Are these things really that popular outside of this little community?

  • leggings
  • bright jewellery
  • getting colours done
  • 'slick of bright lippie' (always lippie, never lipstick)
  • stitchfix style boxes

Also, at any given opportunity, they will tell you how much they hate Charlotte Tilbury and that Pillow Talk is an awful colour that makes them look dead.

What have I missed?

years ago i think it was boden and joules - only heard of these from being on here.

Now i think its all Baukjen, Hush, toast and Cos. The other extreme of this is fabletics and seasalt garments.

I do think there is a wide mix of budgets and styles though.

There are a lot of references to Hobbs- a store that I thought had closed down zonks ago. Hobbs strikes me as a bit boarding school history teacher and not at all a modern brand, and I am yet to be convinced otherwise.

True as pp have stated there is an awful lot of Cos, Toast, baukjen and sezane going on; shops I have never seen on a high street, and probably never will.

I always thought Hobbs/LK Bennett was kind of like Primark to the Duchess of Cambridge 😄

I agree that the style is quite diverse, I probably stick more to threads about beauty products I'm an addict and should be on the beauty hoarders thread but I find in general this is one of the nicest corners of Mumsnet.

Tends to be a total drain on my credit card though.

I love S&B, it's generally supportive and I think there's plenty of variety of ideas from mega cheap to super pricey.
My only moan would be the use of edgie to describe a look or haircut.
It's clearly aspirational on MN and the opposite of mumsie but what it looks like I've no idea.

"Edgy" - for women whoo wore lots of black eyeliner in their teens and like to think they still retain a bit of their youthful counter-culture style.

In my case, it means sticking to my biker jackets, and wearing grey eyeliner.
