Upper Lip Hair Removal (JML Flawless Touch?!)

ServeTheServants · 12/04/2021 09:26

I’ve always bleached my upper lip hair, but I’m now in my late 30s and the hair has become thicker recently, so the sunlight is most definitely catching on my ‘tache and it’s looking dreadful!

I’d rather not go down the route of having to book in for waxing etc, so was contemplating the JML Flawless Touch facial trimmer. Am I mad?! Will it look worse if I use this?? I’ve got fair skin and dark hair. I’m more than happy to spend the few seconds each day on using it if required, but just so worried about stubble forming by the end of the day. Any personal experiences greatly welcomed!

I use this method. It's completely painless but the hair does grow back 'blunter' because it is shaving, after all. I use it around twice a week and pluck any pesky strays. Once you start you'll have to use regularly though

Isn’t this just a way to make women buy another product though? When a razor would do exactly the same job? I do get that it would feel weird using a men’s razor but what’s the difference really?

oigetoffmycheese · 12/04/2021 14:10

The jml thing is quick, painless and v portable. Can do anywhere. I have one in the car too as that mirror is deeply vicious Grin

I get that razors are the same thing but not as handy.

Beware though, it's easy to over use it and be tempted to start attacking eyebrows etc. It's not really manoeuvrable for that. I know, I tried!

Well yes, the way it works is the same but personally I'm not used to using a razor on my face and really wouldnt want to risk cutting myself. The JML thing is much safer.

I bought one when the salons shut for my top lip, you need to use it regularly but I’ve found it a decent alternative for waxing while they’ve been closed.

Darklane · 12/04/2021 14:32

I have one. It’s a really easy, convenient, painless way of dealing with a nuisance problem.

Fluffyandsilly · 12/04/2021 14:37

I know this isn't what you asked, and they are really expensive, but I use my Philips Lumea on my upper lip and it is excellent.
I also have pale skin and dark hair. I used to bleach my upper lip when I was younger, then moved to waxing which left little spots on my sensitive skin. The Lumea is so easy to use on small areas like your lip and leaves it lovely and hair free for ages.

Ahahahstop · 12/04/2021 14:39

Would you consider laser hair removal instead? Waxing is a life time of appointments but after 6-8 sessions with laser you'd be done for life

YanTanTethera123 · 12/04/2021 14:40

I use my epilator, takes 2 minutes maximum and only needs doing every 10 days 😊

Spring2021 · 12/04/2021 14:43

Not sure I alternate between using Nair sensitive lip cream and Jolene bleach to avoid the stubble feel.

Whatever you do I wouldn’t pluck strays out as mine came back dark and much coarser and really stand out.

MrsFionaCharming · 12/04/2021 14:45

I wax my own with the small facial strips. I’m not particularly handy, and still pay to get someone else to do my eyebrows, but top lip is really easy!

ashley69ly · 12/04/2021 14:48

I use one of the spring facial hair removers for my top lip. I sit in front of the tv on an evening and do it when i can feel the regrowth. I found that my full sized epilator made me spotty but this works just fine and is cheap.

Thanks, everyone. So helpful to get other suggestions.

I would seriously consider laser hair removal; I’m a tad nervous as had it done on my bikini line many years ago and found it unbearably painful. I ought to do some research in that area.

Will also check out the Lumea. Thanks, all!

Personally I prefer to get threaded, but I'm hairy all over my face so it's the best finish to get the whole thing done, and lasts longer too. However during lockdowns and for touch-ups in-between threads I will use this yes, and would recommend it. Cheap, quick, easy, painless and a good finish.

Psychonabike · 12/04/2021 20:10

If you have fair skin and dark hair, the Philips Lumea is perfect for you. It's brilliant.

ServeTheServants · 13/04/2021 07:47

I did lots of research last night and think I will invest in the Lumea. Thanks, everybody!

Which lumea are you going to go for? I think I'll get on too!

Ahahahstop · 13/04/2021 11:40

I bought the Lumea a few years ago and didn't have any success on my face but did get success on legs with it.

I had to go to professional place to see results on my face.

@seven201 I went with the Advanced version as it is on offer at John Lewis. Just checked back and they’re now out of stock online 😣

If you buy your Lumea directly from Philips you can always find a discount code online and save a fortune
