Damon brace wire

I got my braces fixed at beginning of January, a huge thing for me as my crooked smile has caused a lot of issues for me most of my adult life. So far I'm really happy but there is still a lot of work to do.

I've been told my next visit will be to change to a thicker wire. What should I expect when this happens? My teeth are still crooked and one of my lateral incisors are protruding slightly, will the thicker wire just move the roots into a better position so this will be fixed?

My dd got progressively thicker wires on her braces. Think it just helps to move the teeth into position. Your mouth may ache for a day or so afterwards. She had hers on for about 2 years on total

Has your dd seen a big progress since getting the thicker wires? I know I have a while to go. Will only of had my thinner wires on for 4 months then I think 12-18 months with thicker wires.

Dd has finished her treatment and her teeth are lovely and straight now. She has a clear plastic retainer to wear at night. Covid cancelled her last appointment so we haven't officially had her last check up

I had Damon braces a couple of years ago. You start off with really tiny wires and they get progressively thicker because they have to be stronger to apply more pressure to your teeth. You can't start off with the thick wires because it would be too much, you have to build up to it.

I would say my progress was steady for the whole two years rather than a big jump when moving to the stronger wires. They're just the next stage in a gradual process. The last few wires were very difficult for the orthodontist to slot into the brackets because they're so tough so be prepared for a few minutes of wrestling each time!

Thanks for sharing your experience Shirrazz. I've been expecting too much too soon I think. Just desperate to get them straight I suppose. Even though they now look aligned, one of my teeth still looks big compared to the rest but I'm only 3.5 months in so I really need to be patient.

Thank you.

Shirrazz, just out of interest are you happy with your teeth now after Damon braces and have they made a huge difference?

I just googled Damon braces and realise dd had traditional braces with elastics and not the braces you are talking about so ignore my previous posts

@purpleben yes really happy with how they turned out! My teeth were so incredibly crooked before and I had to have 4 extracted to make room. They are perfect now. It took about 20 months.

I had a moment of 'what have I done?' when the braces first went on because the wires were twisting all over the place - you don't really realise until you have braces that the wires aren't going to be neat and straight until your teeth are straight!

In terms of timescale, I would say that my teeth were straightish after about 10 months, after that it was mostly about fine-tuning the bite and jaw alignment. I had to wear cross-elastics for a while which was a pain but not everyone does.

My dd had Damon braces for about 18 months in her mid teens . They were uncomfortable and at times painful but she wanted to persevere ( at one point I said let’s just stop). She now has the mist dazzling smile you could imagine, and often says “best thing ever “.

I'm really happy to read these positive reviews. I've hated my teeth since my adult ones grew and because stupidly I didn't wear my brace in my teens I've suffered with very low confidence all my life. I can't wait to see the results.
